Job summary

Mastercard in Purchase, NY seeks a Manager, Accounting (ESG Controllership) to advance ESG reporting, regulatory compliance and controllership priorities across global frameworks. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, sustainability, environmental management or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Experience in public accounting and/or multinational corporate accounting, controllership, reporting, compliance, ESG reporting or internal controls.
  • Familiarity with ESG standards and disclosure requirements (CSRD/ESRS, ISSB, GHG Protocol, EU Taxonomy, California climate).
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into actionable steps and manage complex reporting projects.

Title and Summary

Manager, Accounting (ESG Controllership) Overview This role will be a member of Mastercard’s Controllership function and will support the Director of ESG Controllership, Reporting in advancing the company’s ESG reporting, regulatory compliance and controllership priorities. In this role, you will help execute key workstreams across sustainability reporting, ESG metrics, Workiva-enabled metrics collection and reporting, regulatory implementation, disclosure preparation and assurance readiness. You will work closely with Controllership, Corporate Sustainability, Legal, Regional Controllership teams, external assurance providers and other business partners to coordinate inputs, prepare documentation, analyze requirements, review metrics and support timely, accurate ESG reporting and accounting-related deliverables. The role is intended to provide strong execution and project support for global requirements such as CSRD, ISSB, EU Taxonomy, California climate disclosures and ESG reporting regulations, while partnering with dedicated ESG internal controls and process teams.

Role
  • Coordinate and support implementation workstreams for global sustainability reporting requirements, including EU CSRD, ISSB, EU Taxonomy, California climate disclosure requirements and other emerging regulatory frameworks
  • Execute ESG reporting roadmaps, governance activities, metrics and disclosures aligned with corporate strategy and evolving regulatory requirements
  • Support on climate and GHG reporting processes, including coordination with global and regional teams on emissions reporting, GHG Protocol considerations and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Support the preparation, review and analysis of ESG metrics and key performance indicators, including climate, environmental, social and governance data used for regulatory, statutory and voluntary reporting purposes
  • Leverage Workiva to support ESG metrics collection, workflow management, documentation, review processes and reporting outputs
  • Assist in evaluating ESG metric methodologies, calculation approaches, reporting boundaries, data definitions and key assumptions to support consistent, assurance-ready ESG disclosures
  • Prepare supporting materials and assist with the delivery of regulated and voluntary sustainability disclosures, including regional statutory reporting, corporate sustainability reporting and other external disclosure requirements
  • Develop and maintain supporting schedules, reporting packages, management review materials and disclosure support documentation used in regulatory and assurance processes
  • Coordinate with Controllership, Corporate Sustainability, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management and regional finance teams to gather inputs, track open items, validate supporting information and support high-quality documentation and review processes
  • Monitor emerging standards and disclosure trends and keep the ESG regulation tracker updated, support scoping and preparedness timelines for emerging regulations and educate stakeholders on impact to Mastercard
  • Support assurance activities by evaluating evidence sufficiency, coordinating responses to assurance procedures, identifying documentation gaps, tracking action items and escalating issues as appropriate
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve reporting processes, streamline documentation and enhance consistency across ESG and accounting deliverables, in partnership with the and relevant process owners
  • Partner with the ESG internal controls and processes team by providing ESG reporting subject matter input, supporting documentation requests and helping align control activities with regulatory and disclosure requirements
  • Support ESG data governance efforts led by the ESG internal controls and processes team by contributing reporting context, helping clarify data definitions, and assisting with evidence and handoff documentation needed for assurance-ready reporting
All About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, sustainability, environmental management or a related field; CPA or relevant professional certification preferred
  • Experience in public accounting and/or a multinational corporation accounting, controllership, reporting, compliance, ESG reporting or internal controls function
  • Strong controllership mindset with experience supporting governance, process documentation, risk assessment and reporting execution
  • Familiarity with ESG standards, climate reporting frameworks or sustainability disclosure requirements, including CSRD/ESRS, ISSB, GHG Protocol, EU Taxonomy or California climate disclosures, is preferred
  • Ability to analyze regulatory, accounting or reporting requirements and translate them into clear execution steps, practical process implications and stakeholder‑ready summaries
  • Ability to manage assigned workstreams, organize timelines, follow up with stakeholders and support execution of complex reporting projects in a matrixed environment
  • Sound judgment, high integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive disclosures
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and risk‑based approach to identifying issues, evaluating impacts and recommending next steps for review
  • Team‑oriented and collaborative, with the ability to build relationships across geographies and functions and work effectively with senior stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex topics and prepare concise summaries, status updates, documentation and recommendations
  • Proficiency with researching regulatory literature, accounting guidance, market trends and peer benchmarking analysis
  • Experience using Workiva or similar ESG reporting, disclosure management, workflow and data collection platforms to support metrics collection, documentation, review and reporting processes

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
