Job summary

Mid Valley Hospital is seeking an Accounting Clerk to perform day-to-day accounting functions for the hospital and clinic, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and month-end close activities.

The role supports GAAP-compliant financial records, Medicare Cost Report workpapers, and regulatory filings, working closely with the Fiscal department on payables, payroll, and fixed assets. Strong Excel skills and healthcare experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in healthcare.
  • Ability to communicate financial information in writing and verbally.
  • Experience preparing general ledger reconciliations and journal entries (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Medicare Cost Report preparation and cost-based reimbursement (preferred).

  • Prepare and post routine journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assist in Medicare Cost Report preparation and supporting workpapers.

  • Assist with accounts payable and payroll functions as needed.
  • Reconcile bank statements and cash accounts.

Description
Job Summary

The Accounting Clerk performs the day-to-day routine accounting functions of the hospital and clinic, including preparation and posting of journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, and support of month-end and year-end close processes. Responsible for maintaining accurate and organized financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and healthcare industry standards. Assists in the preparation of the Medicare Cost Report workpapers and other regulatory filings. Supports internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to auditor requests. Works closely with the Fiscal department on accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, and other general accounting functions as assigned. Performs other appropriate accounting duties to support the financial integrity and operational needs of the organization.

Education Background and Experience
Minimum Education:
  • Ø Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, preferred
Required Licensure / Certifications:
  • Ø None Required
Required Experience:
  • Ø Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Ø In lieu of associate degree, candidates may be considered with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ø Experience preparing general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Ø Knowledge of Medicare Cost Report preparation and Critical Access Hospital/Rural Health Clinic cost-based reimbursement
  • Ø Experience supporting financial statements or regulatory audits
  • Ø Experience with accounting or ERP software systems

  • · Demonstrates adequate knowledge of safety policies and procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, hazardous material procedures, and safety codes.
  • · Respond appropriately to any Codes while working any shift (Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Amber, Code Red, Code Orange, and Rapid Response Team).
  • · Demonstrates adequate knowledge of security issues, i.e., personal protection, protection of personnel and hospital property.
  • · Participates in quality initiatives as needed.
  • · Be familiar with and comply with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies.
  • · Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW3000 and Mid-Valley Hospital.

  • Prepares schedules and gathers documentation to support internal and external financial statement audits, regulatory audits, and other agency reviews.
  • Maintains accurate and organized accounting records, files, and supporting documentation in compliance with record retention policies.
  • Assists with accounts payable and payroll functions as needed.
  • Reconciles bank statements and other cash accounts on a routine basis.
  • Assists with fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
  • Assists with budget preparation and variance analysis as requested.
  • Maintains working knowledge of Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic cost-based reimbursement principles.
  • Communicate with department managers and outside vendors to research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of financial and patient information in accordance with organizational policy and HIPAA.
  • Complies with internal controls and recommend process improvements to strengthen the accuracy and efficiency of accounting operations.
  • Assists the Fiscal team with special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as assigned.

WAGE AND COMPENSATION

Wage range $29.81 hr. - $ 43.27 hr. – DOE

Mid-Valley Hospital offers a benefit package. This includes accrued vacation time in the amount of .076923 vacation hours per hour worked. Accrued sick leave at an accrual of .04615 per hour, Life insurance and a profit-sharing plan. We also offer medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Employees can enroll in a 403(b) deferred compensation plan and/or a 457 deferred compensation plan.
