Job summary

Oriental Bank is seeking an Operational Accounting Associate in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to support Accounts Payable, General Ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close within a collaborative finance team.

You will contribute to process improvements, assist with journal entries, and help maintain data integrity across systems in a hybrid work environment. Strong English/Spanish communication and Excel skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Accounting or related field.
• Minimum of one (1) year of accounting or accounting support experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English and Spanish.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, including data retrieval, formulas and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Support timely and accurate processing of accounting transactions while maintaining strong financial controls.
• Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with month-end close and journal entries.
• Maintain data integrity in Accounts Payable systems and validate supporting docs.
• Monitor transactions for policy and regulatory compliance.

We are seeking an Operational Accounting Associate to join our Finance Operations team in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of our accounting processes. From supporting Accounts Payable, General Ledger activities, reconciliations, and month-end close, to contributing to process improvement initiatives, you will gain valuable exposure to core accounting operations while working alongside experienced finance professionals in a collaborative hybrid environment.

What You'll Do

• Supporting the timely and accurate processing of accounting transactions while maintaining strong financial controls.
• Performing account reconciliations, identifying discrepancies, and resolving outstanding items efficiently.
• Assisting with month-end close activities to help ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Preparing and supporting journal entries and other general accounting transactions.
• Maintaining data integrity within Accounts Payable systems and validating supporting documentation.
• Monitoring financial transactions to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Investigating and resolving payment-related inquiries from vendors and internal business partners.
• Performing bank reconciliations and helping maintain accurate operational accounting records.
• Generating, analyzing, and interpreting financial reports that support management decision-making.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve workflows, strengthen controls, and increase efficiency.
• Participating in process improvement and automation projects that drive operational excellence.

What We're Looking For

• Associate Degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of one (1) year of accounting or accounting support experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data retrieval, formulas, and reporting.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external business partners.

Preferred Strengths

• Experience supporting Accounts Payable, General Ledger, or Operational Accounting functions.
• Familiarity with financial reconciliations and month-end close processes.
• Interest in process improvement, efficiency initiatives, and automation projects.
