Job summary

Menkes Developments Ltd. is seeking an Accounting Associate to support diverse portfolios across construction, property management, investments and corporate entities.

You will work closely with the Controller and Accounting and Tax teams, contributing to financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and tax compliance while gaining broad exposure to the business. This on-site role at our North York head office offers opportunities to develop CPA-oriented skills, improve tax knowledge with JD Edwards

Qualifications

• Completion of an undergraduate degree with a major in Accounting.
• Interest in pursuing the CPA designation; Taxation course preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills; advanced Excel skills preferred.
• JD Edwards experience is an asset.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
• Effective verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to learn new accounting, tax, and financial reporting concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of comfort working with financial data and numbers.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of investment and corporate entities.
• Prepare management reports, budgets, and quarterly summaries for consolidated entities and management fees across the portfolio.
• Prepare and distribute approval-route summaries to department heads and follow up on approvals.
• Monitor unapproved purchase orders and aged receivables/payables and RNV balances.
• Complete monthly bank reconciliations and resolve reconciling items.
• Assist with G&A budgets and JD Edwards budgeting and coordination with department heads.
• Support quarterly, annual, and ad hoc financial analyses and management reports.
• Assist with HST filings and CRA information requests.
• Support annual audit processes with documentation and schedules.
• Prepare annual tax filings using Taxprep for various entities and returns.
• Assist with CRA income tax audits by gathering supporting documentation.
• Research and assist with tax matters and other compliance requirements.
• Perform ad hoc accounting and financial analysis as required.
• Collaborate with Accounting and Tax teams to meet deadlines.
