Job summary

Kent State University is seeking an Accounting Associate at the Kent Campus to support daily cash management and general accounting activities. The role reports to the Controller and involves reconciling accounts, processing data, and coordinating with university personnel and auditors.

The position requires an Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field with accounting experience; a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance/Business is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business, or relevant field with two years of accounting experience, or four years total equivalent.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in personal computer applications.
  • Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to use automated financial systems and MS Office (word, Excel, databases, internet, email).
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and higher education experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Journal daily cash worksheet transactions and attach supporting documentation.
  • Review and balance daily reports related to Cashnet, student accounts receivable, and Banner Finance.
  • Process data uploads during month-end and year-end periods.
  • Assist or perform reconciliation of various cash accounts and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in inventory report verification and journal entry preparation.
  • Gather and report data for accounts such as Bursar's clearing, Salary Deferral, etc.
  • Coordinate quarterly forums with business administrators and share information.
  • Manage department websites.
  • Assist in recommending changes to accounting systems, policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

$42,357 - $47,919

Basic Function:

Assist in the accounting functions by recording daily cash management transactions; reconciling and balancing Kent State University accounts; serve as liaison with business administrators within the university; assist university personnel and independent auditors. Reports to the Controller.

Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Journal daily cash worksheet transactions, including gathering & scanning/attaching supporting documentation.
  • Review and balance daily reports related to Cashnet, student accounts receivable transactions, and overall Banner Finance processing.
  • Process data uploads during month-end/year-end periods.
  • Assist or perform reconciliation of various cash accounts and/or other balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in inventory report verification and preparation of summary information for journal entry.
  • Assist in data gathering/reporting for various accounts (such as Bursar's clearing, Salary Deferral, Legal fees, Medical insurance, mail services inventory, petty cash & change fund).
  • Coordinate quarterly forums with business administrators across the university and distribute information to this group between the quarterly forums.
  • Manage department websites.
  • Participate in recommending changes in accounting systems, policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business, or relevant field and two years of accounting, banking and/or bookkeeping experience. Or the equivalent combination of accounting coursework and accounting, banking and/or bookkeeping experience work experience to equal at least four years.

License/Certification:

None.

Knowledge Of:

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices * Personal computer applications *

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication *

Ability To:

Proficiently use automated financial systems and personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and email *

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and experience in higher education setting preferred.

Working Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8am - 5 pm or otherwise discussed with your supervisor.
