The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Corrections Service Center is responsible for program accounting, cash management, resident accounts, and revenue/expenditure control for the Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC). These facilities support community safety through supportive intervention, empowering change, and restoring lives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As an Accounting Assistant Technician at the DAFS Corrections Service Center (CSC) located at the Central Office in Augusta, you will work closely with the CSC Senior Financial Analyst, Accounting Support Specialist, and the Department of Corrections staff to process payments related to restitution and supervision payments. Your role involves ensuring transactions are logged and coded correctly, completing daily check logs, collecting documentation for direct bills, processing cash receipts, and printing victim checks.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage daily tasks effectively, provide excellent customer service, and adapt to changing priorities. The role requires the ability to handle multiple tasks independently and possess excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.

Experience with MainePays, Advantage, and CORIS is preferred. The work location is in Augusta, with occasional in-state travel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and business English.
  • Knowledge of office methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of business mathematics.
  • Ability to verify, code, compute, and reconcile data on standard documents.
  • Ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data.
  • Ability to prepare accurate accounting and financial reports and statements.
  • Ability to type routine business correspondence from drafts or source documents.
  • Ability to organize and maintain computerized and manual files.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, training, or experience in accounting or a related field demonstrating competency in maintaining records and applying basic accounting principles.
