Staff Accountant | Escambia County Public Schools

As a Staff Accountant, you will contribute to the robust financial management of an organization dedicated to public education and community service. This position is crucial for maintaining the financial health and operational integrity of various county functions and programs through accurate accounting, diligent reporting, and meticulous oversight. Your contributions ensure smooth financial operations and compliance across the organization’s diverse responsibilities.

What You’ll Actually Do

• Financial Reconciliation & Reporting: Diligently reconcile bank accounts to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This involves preparing comprehensive financial reports and providing specific, detailed reports for entities such as ECATS, Agency on Aging, and EMA to support their operational and compliance needs.
• Transaction Management & Oversight: Execute critical financial transactions, including processing Journal Vouchers and facilitating fund transfers, to maintain the organization’s financial fluidity. This also encompasses overseeing the Accounts Payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
• Financial Review & Compliance: Conduct thorough reviews of requisitions for account accuracy and meticulously examine all financial postings for precision. This responsibility extends to reviewing trial balances to identify discrepancies and ensure the overall health of financial statements.
• Payroll & Benefits Support: Work closely with the payroll department to ensure accurate and timely compensation processes. Additionally, review employee benefits to ensure compliance, proper administration and accurate recording within financial systems.
• Administrative & Governance Support: Provide essential administrative support by tasks such as applying for tags for county vehicles. Attend commission meetings to stay informed on county decisions and contribute accounting insights as needed, and provide backup support to the County Administrator.
