Job summary

United Utility Services in Charlotte, NC seeks a Senior Accountant to oversee daily accounting operations, prepare financial statements, and support audits and tax filings. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, 5–10 years of experience (2+ in a senior role), GAAP expertise, and proficiency with Sage 300 and Excel. Construction sector experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA a plus.
  • 5–10 years in accounting with ≥2 years in a senior role.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge.
  • Experience with Sage 300 accounting software.
  • Construction industry experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookup, modeling).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow).
  • Close month and year with journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Reconcile general ledger and bank accounts; manage AP/AR.
  • Assist with tax filings and audits; support internal/external audits.
  • Develop and implement accounting process improvements.
  • Ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed.
  • Respond to management inquiries with clear data.

The salary range for this position 90,000.00-115,000.00

Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

About The Role

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. This role involves preparing financial statements, managing accounts, and supporting the finance team with audits, tax filings, and process improvements. The Senior Accountant will work closely with other departments to ensure financial operations are aligned with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare and review account analysis and support financial audits.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Assist with tax filings, including sales tax and property tax, as necessary.
  • Support internal and external audits, providing requested documentation and explanations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements in accounting operations.
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and implement best practices.
  • Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial data and reports.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture within the finance department.
  • Conduct ad hoc financial analysis as required.
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting(CPA certification or in-progress certification is a plus).
  • 5-10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a senior accountant role.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with accounting software (Sage 300).
  • Construction experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, v-lookup, financial modeling).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in accounting software systems (Sage 300, Power BI)
