What you will do
  • Prepare and post journal entries and perform account reconciliations.

Position Description

This position is in the Corporate Accounting department, and its primary function is to maintain accounting records in accordance with applicable requirements and to prepare financial statements in a complex environment. In addition to the Corporate Accounting function, this position may support, as needed, the Controller's Area, which is comprised of Corporate Accounting, External Reporting, Accounting Systems, Plant Accounting, Energy Settlements, and Tax. The position requires flexibility in adapting to new environments and job assignments and the ability to quickly learn new processes.

Position-Related Responsibilities
Accountant II
  • Accurately and timely prepare monthly journal entries in accordance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements. Analyze the effects of transactions on various account relationships related to financial statements.
  • Perform account reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparation of multi-level consolidating financial statements (income statement, indirect cash flow statement, and balance sheet), ensuring compliance with GAAP, FERC guidelines, and SEC requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly reports/analyses for Management, including graphs, charts, and written analyses explaining financial statement fluctuations. Participate in research and accounting treatment recommendations for new or proposed transactions.
  • Familiarity with activity of regulatory rule‑making bodies such as FASB, SEC, FERC, etc., to identify new requirements.
  • Assist in development and documentation of new accounting procedures and modifications to existing procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness and maintain internal controls.
  • Provide customer service to other departments and management by providing financial data and analysis to assist in business decisions and analysis of operating results. May include presentation of accounting concepts or operating results.
  • Use Oracle Financials accounting and query tools, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint to develop reports and supporting accounting schedules, as necessary to aid in financial statement analysis and decision making.
  • Assist in the preparation of various regulatory compliance reports, including FERC Form 1, ACC reports, SEC reports (Form 10‑Q and Form 10‑K – financial statements and related notes).
  • Provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by preparing accurate, complete, and audit‑ready workpapers, reconciliations, journal entry support, and other requested documentation. Respond to routine audit inquiries, research supporting detail, and coordinate with internal departments to obtain information needed to support audit requests.
Special Projects (Accountant II)
  • Complete responses to regulatory data requests (i.e., FERC and ACC) and prepare rate case adjustments assigned to the Corporate Accounting area. Assist in identifying rate case adjustments and regulatory issues.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested such as due diligence work, systems testing, etc.
  • Participate in special projects requiring accounting and financial analysis skills.
Accountant Senior
  • Maintain the accounting records and prepare financial statements in a very complex accounting environment.
  • Timely prepare and/or review monthly journal entries for accuracy, compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements, etc. Analyze the effects of transactions on various account relationships related to financial statements.
  • Prepare and/or review account reconciliations and analyze account activity and financial statement relationships to identify unusual trends, reconciling items, or potential misclassifications.
  • Prepare and/or review multi‑level consolidating financial statements (income statement, indirect cash flow statement, and balance sheet), ensuring compliance with GAAP, FERC guidelines, and SEC requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of monthly reports/analyses to Management, including graphs, charts, and written analyses explaining financial statement fluctuations.
  • Research, recommend accounting treatment, and implement solutions for new or proposed transactions.
  • Monitor activity of regulatory rule‑making bodies such as FASB, SEC, FERC, etc., to identify new requirements. Ensure timely notification to Accounting Department, upper management, and implement procedures to comply with new requirements.
  • Develop and document new accounting procedures and modifications to existing procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness and maintain internal controls.
  • Provide customer service to other departments and management by advising them on accounting matters and providing financial data and analysis to assist in business decisions and analysis of operating results. May include presentation of accounting concepts or operating results.
  • Use Oracle Financials accounting and query tools, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint to develop reports and supporting accounting schedules, as necessary to aid in financial statement analysis and decision making.
  • Assist in the preparation of various regulatory compliance reports, including FERC Form 1, ACC reports, SEC reports (Form 10‑Q and Form 10‑K – financial statements and related notes), ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and timely completion.
  • Provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by reviewing audit‑ready workpapers, reconciliations, journal entry support, and other documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements. Coordinate responses to audit inquiries, resolve complex support requests, assist with audit issue research, and provide guidance to other accountants in preparing audit support.
Special Projects (Accountant Senior)
  • Complete/Review responses to regulatory data requests (i.e., FERC and ACC) and prepare and/or review rate case adjustments assigned to the Corporate Accounting area. Assist in identifying rate case adjustments and regulatory issues.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested such as due diligence work, systems testing, etc.
  • Participate and/or lead special projects requiring accounting and financial analysis skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Accountant II

Research specific activities to determine appropriate financial statement classification. Able to prepare basic consolidated financial statements. Assist with the preparation of compliance reports and other projects. Provide information to other departments either alone or working with others. Has primary responsibility for small to medium projects.

Minimum Qualifications (Accountant II)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting with a minimum of 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution and 2 years of accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications (Accountant II)
  • Public accounting experience and CPA preferred.
Accountant Senior

Has responsibility for complex research, analysis, compliance and multi‑level consolidation projects. May have several projects assigned at the same time, may lead large projects, and may assist other accountants on large projects. Direct and review work prepared by others. May provide advice/training to less experienced accountants.
