Job summary

Service Corporation International (SCI) is seeking a degreed accountant to join a highly automated team at the New Orleans corporate office in Elmwood. The role performs technical accounting and/or auditing work to ensure trust assets are fairly presented and reconciled through automation and process management.

• Prepares accounting reports and schedules; analyzes inter-company transactions.
• Uploads monthly journal entries and prepares account reconciliations.
• May prepare financial statements and foreign currency translations.
• Responds to SOX and internal audit requests; supports special projects.

SCI, a publicly traded corporation, is seeking a degreed accountant to join a highly automated team in the New Orleans corporate office in Elmwood.This accounting position performs a variety of technical accounting and/or auditing work, which requires the application of accounting theory and practices, to assist in ensuring all trust assets are fairly presented and reconciled through automation initiatives and process management.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs professional-level accounting duties such as:
  • Performing and reviewing reconciliations
  • Completing journal entries
  • Preparing work papers, schedules and reports
• Ensures transactions are in accordance with applicable authority, policies, and procedures and are recorded consistent with acceptable accounting standards.
• Demonstrates or explains accounting practices and procedures as requested.
• Prepares accounting reports and supplemental schedules.
• Prepares analysis of inter-company relationships and transactions.
• Uploads journal entries on monthly basis.
• Prepares account reconciliations for department owned accounts.
• May prepare financial statements.
• May prepare foreign currency translations.
• Prepares various reports for compliance with GAAP regulations.
• Responds to SOX and internal audit requests as needed.
• Assists with special projects as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• Either: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a university accredited by AACSB, Bachelor’s degree in another field from a university accredited by AACSB combined with relevant accounting experience, or CPA

Experience:

• Two (2) years of financial reporting experience or equivalent experience in a related field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Familiarity with SEC reporting requirements and consolidation accounting required
• Understanding of accounting principles, GAAP
• Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations
• Ability to work independently, prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines
• Ability to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation
• Proficiency with PC software such as Excel, other Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively in both written and oral communications
