Job summary

Macy's is seeking an Accountant I to ensure timely, GAAP-compliant accounting and reporting of sales and gross margin across retail divisions. You will perform journal entries, balance reconciliations, and assist audits while supporting system testing and process improvements.

You will develop SQL-based analyses, partner with multiple departments, and contribute to strategic financial initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Strong Excel, communication, and problem‑solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
• Experience with financial analysis, reporting, reconciliations, and audits.

Responsibilities

• Record weekly entries and reports related to gross margin; troubleshoot systems and analyze data.
• Develop and execute SQL queries using Google BigQuery to extract and analyze data.
• Assist in monthly closing of gross margin components and communicate exceptions.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Support internal and external audits with documentation and schedules.
