Job summary

The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking an Accountant I to provide accounting support across multiple departments, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records and reporting.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with campus partners on budgeting, grants, financial reporting, reconciliations, and operational accounting functions that help advance the college’s mission and strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • 2–3 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Generate invoices in accordance with grant agreements and funding requirements.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and account analysis.
  • Assist with year-end closing activities and audit preparation.
  • Support departmental financial reporting and budget monitoring.
  • Provide financial information to aid operational and budgetary decisions.
  • Travel between CWI locations may be required.

Support Financial Operations and Student Success as an Accountant I at CWI!

Are you a detail‑oriented accounting professional who enjoys financial analysis, problem solving, and supporting organizational success? The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking an Accountant I to provide accounting support across multiple departments while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records and reporting.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with campus partners to support budgeting, grants, financial reporting, reconciliations, and operational accounting functions that help advance the college’s mission and strategic goals.

Grants, Invoicing & Revenue Management:
  • Generate invoices in accordance with grant agreements and funding requirements
  • Maintain grant documentation and supporting records
  • Reconcile grant-related accounts receivable balances and aging reports
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting guidelines
  • Compile and analyze accounting information and financial reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare quarterly Workforce Development reports, financial aid work‑study reports, scholarship reports, and other operational reports
  • Monitor financial activity and identify trends, discrepancies, or areas requiring follow‑up
  • Support management with timely and accurate financial information
Accounting Operations & Reconciliations:
  • Prepare and process journal entries, fund transfers, revenue adjustments, expenditure adjustments, and other accounting transactions
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and account analysis on a timely basis
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and prepare necessary correcting entries
  • Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded and documented
Compliance, Controls & Audit Support:
  • Review and approve payment requests, purchasing card transactions, purchase requisitions, and supporting documentation
  • Ensure transactions comply with college procedures, funding requirements, and accounting standards
  • Assist with year‑end closing activities and annual audit preparation
  • Support internal controls and continuous improvement efforts within the Business Office
  • Work collaboratively with Business Office staff and campus departments to support institutional goals
  • Adapt to changing priorities and operational needs while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
  • Contribute to a culture of service, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Travel between CWI locations may be required throughout the day
  • Position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
What We’re Looking For:
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing business needs
Additional Instructions For Applicants:

Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case‑by‑case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
