SAL Community Services, based in the Quad Cities region, seeks a Grant Accountant to manage grant accounting, ensure compliance, and support multiple funders. You will process data in NetSuite, prepare financial statements, and maintain accurate records across programs.

The role requires strong accounting skills for government and private grants, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with program staff while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or an emphasis in Accounting preferred with related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, five years of nonprofit grants experience accepted.
  • Proficient in NetSuite and Microsoft Office software.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of assigned grants from multiple funders, totaling about 40% of budget.
  • Monitor coding and allocations between programs and grants; advise on proper coding.
  • Generate, audit and file payable reports with supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile general ledger journals and post grant revenue transfers.
  • Administer grant contracts for compliance with government regulations.
  • Maintain journal vouchers, ledgers and records for grant accounting.

DESCRIPTION

SAL Community Servicesis the Quad Cities areas leading provider of early childhood care and education and now includes the Early Head Start Child Care Partnerships program. We provide a safe, secure and supportive environment centered on how playing can charge the mind of the children we care for.

The Grant Accountant applies principles of accounting and is the subject matter expert for the grants by multiple funders for SAL Community Services (SAL). This includes maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial statements and completing all grant-related functions. Utilizes NetSuite Accounting software to process data and complete reports and other documentation. You will also:

  • Oversee all aspects of assigned state, local, federal and private grants to include 8 grants equaling an estimated 40% of the organizational budget.
  • Monitor coding and allocations between programs and the various grants. Assist the program directors and other staff when necessary regarding proper coding of expenses and federal and state policies regarding purchases.
  • Generate, audit and file payable reports along with supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile and analyze all related general ledger journals, accounts, ledgers, and/or other records on a monthly basis for accuracy of coding by program and department, to post transfers for grant revenue, and any other items related to the grant.
  • Administration of grant contract for compliance with government regulations.
  • Update and maintain journal vouchers, ledgers, and other records to post grant revenue, grant indirect costs, grant direct costs, and other miscellaneous items.

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or an emphasis in Accounting from four-year college or university is preferred with at least two years related experience. In lieu of a degree, no less than five years of experience in a non- profit environment with federal and/or state grants will be accepted. Proficient in NetSuite and Microsoft Office software.Preferred: Three-plus years of experience in a non-profit environment plus the degree. In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience.
