Status: Exempt - Not Eligible for OT, Salary

Salary Range: $58,500 - $76,782 Annual (Average) / $69,733 (Median)

Classification: Full-Time (35.00 / 40.00 Hours/Week)

Hours: Primarily M-F 8:30am – 5:00pm; some evenings and weekend availability required

POSITION SUMMARY

Are you an aspiring Junior Accountant looking for an opportunity to advance your career? Universal Hip Hop Museum (UHHM) is looking for an ambitious Junior Accountant who we can rely on to manage daily accounting tasks. The candidate will be responsible for preparing financial reports to track the assets, liabilities, profits and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. Will also be well-versed in accounting principles and contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department. Our ideal candidate must be able to hit the ground running, work within a team environment and take initiative when needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)

  1. Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
  2. Track and update accounts receivable and issue invoices.
  3. Track and update accounts payable and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  4. Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  5. Verify bank deposits and payment of invoices.
  6. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
  7. Maintain the petty cash fund and chart of accounts.
  8. Update financial data in a timely manner and ensure information is accurate.
  9. Provide auditors with assistance, gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audits.
  10. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  11. Adhere to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines.
  12. Prepare month-end and year-end closings.
  13. Generate 1099’s.
  14. Safeguard and secure all financial records for the organization.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  2. Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  3. Detail-oriented, organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and establish priorities.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Highly proficient with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
  8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting principles.
  9. Familiar with local, state, and governmental regulations and legal requirements related to non-profits.
