Job summary

Aterra Real Estate Holdings, located in West Des Moines, Iowa, is adding an Accountant to support the Controller and accounting staff. The role requires GAAP knowledge, urgency, and strong organization within a team environment.

Responsibilities include cash management across multiple bank accounts, reconciling balance sheet accounts, assisting with monthly close, budgeting, and support for acquisitions and dispositions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 2–3 years of accounting experience.
• Proficient in Excel.
• Experience with GL software; knowledge of Yardi Voyager, Yardi Breeze, Business Central or QuickBooks Online is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage cash position across multiple bank accounts.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
• Review income statements and assist with monthly financial close.
• Assist with annual property budgets.
• Support acquisitions and dispositions.
• Backfill AP/AR duties and journal entries as needed.
• Assist with 1099 processing.
• Prepare for anticipated software conversion in 2027.

Job Summary:

This role provides support to the Controller and other accounting staff. To be successful in this role you must have an understanding of GAAP accounting, have a sense of urgency, be able to meet deadlines, be a highly organized self-starter, and a team player.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage cash position for multiple bank accounts and monitor bank account activity
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts
• Review income statements and prepare necessary documents to aid Controller in monthly financial process
• Assist with preparation of annual property budgets
• Provide support for acquisitions and dispositions
• Efficiently manage multiple deadlines
• Backfill the responsibilities of other employees while out of the office, which includes:
  • Accounts Payable support
  • Accounts Receivable support; deposits and invoicing
  • Create and Enter Journal Entries
  • Obtaining and reviewing mortgage documents for upcoming purchases
• Assist with annual processing of 1099's
• Assist with anticipated software conversion in 2027
• Protect the value of the organization by keeping information confidential
• Other duties as requested by management

Skills and Qualifications:

• Four-year degree in Accounting with two or three years of Accounting experience
• Experience with Excel
• Experience with General Ledger software required, knowledge of Yardi Voyager, Yardi Breeze, Business Central, or Quickbooks Online, a plus
• Deadline-Oriented, Time Management, Attention to Detail, Confidentiality, PC Proficiency, Verbal Communication, and above average Math Skills
