Hope Gas is seeking an Accountant to support our financial integrity through accurate preparation, review, and analysis of accounting records and reports. The role emphasizes compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and timely month-end close.

You will work with internal and external stakeholders, maintain the general ledger, and may guide junior staff to ensure efficient team operations. This full-time role is based in Morgantown, WV.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and at least 3 years of accounting experience.
• Alternatively, a High School Diploma with at least 7 years of accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other reports for accuracy and conformity to standards.
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Document accounting procedures and controls.
• Handle moderately complex accounting projects and general ledger maintenance.
• Identify inconsistencies and communicate them to management.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization’s financial integrity through accurate preparation, review, and analysis of accounting records and financial reports. This role ensures compliance with reporting standards and internal controls, supports general ledger maintenance, and contributes to timely month-end, quarterly, and year-end close processes. The position works closely with internal and external stakeholders and may provide guidance to junior staff to support effective team operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and analyze accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformity to reporting and procedural standards
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations and variance analysis
• Assist in documenting accounting procedures and controls
• Conduct moderately complex assignments involving accounting projects and the day-to-day maintenance of a general ledger
• Identify inconsistencies and problems and communicate them to management
• Perform appropriate accounting controls
• Participate in month-end closing, quarterly and year-end financial reporting activities
• Interact with internal and external customers
• May provide guidance to less experienced staff, helping to coordinate routine activities to support team operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.
• Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.

LEVELING

The Accountant performs work under general supervision and applies developing professional knowledge to moderately complex assignments, . contributes to project deliverables, resolves routine issues, and seeks guidance for unfamiliar or complex matters.

Required Skills & Abilities

• Strong computer skills, including MS Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of internal controls documentation
• Understanding of accounting information systems
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Strong analytical ability and organization skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Working knowledge of U.S. General Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices and procedures.

Education & Work Experience

• Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or related field -and-
• At least 3 years of experience in accounting or related field.

- OR -

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent -and-
• At least 7 years of experience in accounting or related field

Physical Requirements

• Remain stationary for extended periods of time, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities.
• Lift, push, and/or pull up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
• Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery as necessary.
• Communicate with others to accurately exchange information and ideas.
• Hear sufficiently to allow general and phone communications.
• Visual acuity to read standard text on screens and documents, observe surroundings, recognize hazards, and perform tasks safely.
• Observe details at close range.
• Problem solve, prioritize tasks, and interpret and understand written documents.
