The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our Finance team at the Main Library in downtown Dayton. This role handles day-to-day accounting, payroll, budgeting, and financial reporting to ensure accuracy and strong internal controls.
Responsibilities include end-of-month processes, fixed asset maintenance, and supporting purchasing and regulatory requirements. A Bachelor’s degree, 2–5 years of experience, and payroll knowledge are preferred.
The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our Finance team! This position reports to the Accounting Manager and works at the Main Library in downtown Dayton. This position is responsible for performing and supporting day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, and completeness of financial records. This position plays a key role in general accounting, budget administration, accounts payable, purchasing, financial reporting, month-end and year end closing activities, and maintaining effective internal control. -Assists with maintaining current data on the financial condition of the Library. Provides data and assists with preparation of the annual budget.
-Tracks and records daily cash receipts from the general bank account.
-Manages department blanket purchase orders. Responds to encumbered and unencumbered department budget requests and processes department budget adjustments.
-Assists with end of month journal entries and reconciliations.
-Assists with developing and maintaining a system of internal accounting controls.
-Maintains fixed asset system for financial purposes and prepares statement of values for insurance renewal.
-Audits personnel changes prior to biweekly payroll process.
-Processes biweekly payroll for DML staff. Manages multiple software applications in order to process payroll. Enters and maintains employee records in software applications.
-Completes timesheet audits and timesheet batching. Corrects account distributions and reviews all batches.
-Pays payroll deductions. Files and pays payroll taxes and associated reports accurately and timely.
-Assists with the filing of government reports, such as sales tax returns, employee census, 1099s, Ohio withholding taxes, Ohio Worker’s Compensation and ensures W-9 compliance, in advance of filing.
-Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in business administration-preferably with a major in finance or accounting; and two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
-Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and fixed asset procedures.
-Knowledge of fund and cash basis accounting principles and financial record keeping requirements.
-Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, policy and procedure manuals and governmental regulations.
-A bility to maintain confidentiality.
-Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
-Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, coworkers and members of the community. Ability to apply active listening skills.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $23.95. (Those applicants with a relevant Master’s degree may qualify for the professional offset, which would increase the hourly rate by $3.09 per hour.) Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.This position is open until filled.
