Job summary

Commission On Economic Opportunity is seeking an Accountant in Troy, NY to manage general ledger entries, streamline accounts payable, and support monthly close and financial reporting. The candidate will collaborate with the finance team to ensure accuracy, compliance, and data integrity across multiple programs.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree (bachelor's preferred) with experience in a fast-paced environment and proficiency in Excel and accounting software.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred), or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Experience working in a high paced environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with strong emphasis on Excel
• Experience with accounting software programs is preferred
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post general ledger journal entries with accuracy and timeliness.
• Lead and optimize accounts payable processes, ensuring efficient, accurate handling of transactions and purchase orders while identifying opportunities for workflow improvements.
• Partner with the finance team to prepare and review monthly financial reports, supporting program monitoring and ensuring compliance with financial standards.
• Support monthly close activities for assigned programs, including account reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting systems to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Ensure full compliance with organizational and finance policies.

Position Summary:

The Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations by ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance across all accounting functions. This position is responsible for managing general ledger activities, overseeing accounts payable processes, and contributing to the monthly close and financial reporting cycle.
