Job description

Our Company

Cloudbreak Energy Partners is one of the fastest growing renewable energy companies in Colorado. Formed by three experienced renewable energy professionals, Cloudbreak is already one of the leading commercial and community solar developers in the Mountain West of the United States. Our mission is to accelerate the growth in domestic renewable energy capacity while also bringing its economic benefits to communities across the country. Here in Colorado, we are doing that by developing projects that save local residents and businesses money on their electric bills, generating significant tax revenue and millions of dollars in local investment, and creating well-paying, local jobs.

Our team is a tightly-knit group that has been working together in the solar industry for several years. When we aren't trying to bring the benefits of renewable energy to local communities, our team loves to ski, board, bike, hike, camp, go to concerts, and dine together. As passionate outdoor-loving Coloradans, we believe that climate change poses an existential risk to not just the places we love, but humanity itself. If you are passionate about accelerating the transition to renewable energy and willing to roll up your sleeves to solve the hard problems, this is the place.

The Position

Cloudbreak Energy is seeking an Accounting Manager to manage day-to-day accounting across the company as we scale our development and operating portfolio. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will help ensure the integrity of Cloudbreak's financial records, support the management of external accountants including the financial audit process, and coordinate the timely production of accurate financial statements prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP that our counterparties and capital partners rely on.

This is a high-impact role at a pivotal moment in our growth. You will help build and refine the accounting function from the ground up, bringing rigor and structure while remaining hands-on. The ideal candidate has direct experience in renewable energy accounting across both development and operating assets, including assets financed with debt and tax equity, and understands what it takes to support a fast-moving, capital-intensive business.

This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys helping build functions from the ground up, and takes pride in getting the numbers right.

Job Responsibilities
  • Accounting Management: Manage core accounting functions across Cloudbreak Energy, including the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll accounting, and the maintenance of accurate books and records prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • External Audit Support: Support Cloudbreak's external audit process, serving as a key point of contact for auditors, preparing audit-ready schedules and support, and helping ensure audits are completed accurately and on schedule
  • Financial Reporting & Deliverable Coordination: Coordinate with external accountants on the preparation of both audited and unaudited financial statements prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery. Maintain a clear understanding of the timelines for receiving financial statements from our external accountants to help the company meet its contractual and financing commitments to counterparties
  • Renewable Energy & Technical Accounting: Apply accounting expertise to Cloudbreak's development and operating assets, helping ensure accounting treatments are accurate, consistent, and prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Support the research, interpretation, and documentation of U.S. GAAP guidance for accounting matters, including debt and tax equity financing arrangements, revenue recognition, capitalization of development costs, asset impairment, and project- and entity-level reporting
  • Internal Controls & Systems: Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of internal controls, accounting policies, workflows, and systems that scale with the company and safeguard financial integrity
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Deliver timely and accurate internal financial reporting to the VP of Finance and leadership team to support decision-making, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate closely with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, lenders, tax equity investors, and internal business units to keep financial operations running smoothly
  • Tax Compliance Support: Support compliance with tax filings, regulatory requirements, and financing covenants, coordinating with external tax preparers and advisors, and helping ensure the accounting implications of tax matters are appropriately reflected in financial statements prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Treasury Support: Support cash management, treasury operations, and the reconciliation of project- and corporate-level accounts
  • Team Support: Support the onboarding and mentorship of accounting team members as the team grows

  • A hands-on professional who is equally comfortable applying accounting policy and preparing a reconciliation. No task is beneath you
  • Exceptional organizational skills, a high degree of ownership, and a keen eye for detail. You follow through, you keep things moving, and you don't let things fall through the cracks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting concepts clearly to non-accountants
  • Growth mindset: you're excited to help build something
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a combination of public accounting and industry experience is a plus
  • Boulder-based or willing to relocate strongly preferred
