About Elev8 Baltimore

Elev8 Baltimore is dedicated to empowering students, families, and communities by partnering with schools and local entities. Our focus is on comprehensive student success through advocacy, coordinated services, and policy reform. By challenging systemic inequalities, we strive to create environments where youth can thrive.

Position Overview

Grant and Compliance Context: A substantial portion of Elev8 Baltimore’s operations is supported through government and philanthropic grants, requiring adherence to federal and state grant regulations, restricted fund tracking, detailed documentation, and timely financial and programmatic reporting.

Elev8 Baltimore operates with a multi-million-dollar annual budget that is supported by a diverse mix of public funding and philanthropy, including 40% federally funded revenue, 35% from state and local government grants and contracts, 20% from foundation and corporate grants, and 5% from individual contributions and other sources. A substantial portion of Elev8’s operations relies on government and philanthropic grants, making compliance with federal and state regulations, restricted fund tracking, detailed documentation, and timely financial and programmatic reporting essential. These funds are distributed across multiple program sites and initiatives, each with distinct grant requirements, reporting timelines, and compliance obligations. Elev8 maintains complex restricted funding streams, rigorous grant tracking, and strong stewardship expectations from both public funders and private partners. This financial complexity demands disciplined accounting, timely reporting, and audit‑ready documentation to support program growth and long‑term sustainability.

Position Summary

Elev8 Baltimore is hiring an Accountant to play a key role in bringing finance operations fully in‑house. As we transition from an external fiscal agent to an internal finance team, this position will help strengthen monthly close processes, maintain accurate and timely financial records, and support grant and contract reporting across a growing portfolio of programs.

This is a hands‑on role ideal for a finance professional who wants real ownership, values clean systems, and is excited to help build sustainable infrastructure inside a mission‑driven organization.

Why This Role Matters Now

Elev8 is at a defining moment. We are intentionally building a fully in‑house finance function that reflects the scale, complexity, and impact of our work across Baltimore City. This Accountant will help ensure stability and confidence during that transition, so leadership, program teams, and funders can rely on timely, accurate financial information.

This role is especially compelling for candidates who want more than routine accounting work. You will help establish repeatable workflows, strengthen monthly close discipline, and embed audit‑ready practices that will support Elev8 for years to come. The work you do here directly enables program growth, grant compliance, and responsible stewardship of public and philanthropic funds.

If you are motivated by impact, enjoy improving systems, and want your accounting expertise to matter beyond the numbers, this is an opportunity to grow your career while contributing to meaningful change.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the general ledger with accurate coding by program, grant, and cost center.
  • Support monthly close activities, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipt tracking.
  • Support grant invoicing, reimbursements, and restricted fund monitoring.
  • Maintain organized, audit‑ready documentation and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and internal financial reporting.
  • Support documentation and knowledge transfer as finance operations move in‑house.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit or grant accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with month‑end close, reconciliations, and financial documentation.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks preferred) and strong Excel skills.
  • Detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a growing, evolving environment.
  • CPA or CPA‑track a plus but not required.
