Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking an Accountant to be based at Chain O’Lakes Correctional Facility in Albion, Indiana. You will process Accounts Payable, Recreation Fund, and Miscellaneous Fund transactions, primarily in PeopleSoft, with a starting salary around $37,648.00 and a comprehensive benefits package.

  • Foundational knowledge of the federal and state laws, procedures, practices and policies of governmental accounting and bookkeeping.

  • Ability to solve standard accounting problems.
  • Ability to evaluate and modify accounting methods and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate and concise reports.

Responsibilities

  • Post transactions to appropriate ledgers and accounts.
  • Verify accuracy of all financial documents and records.
  • Reconcile accounts and subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger.
  • Prepare, correct, and adjust entries prior to closing accounts.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports such as balance sheets and income statements.
  • Ensure availability of funds before authorizing payment or submitting vouchers for payment to the State Auditor’s Office for approval.
  • Prepare, edit, and verify electronic data processing entries and documents.
  • Recommend changes in accounting policies and assists in developing accounting procedures.

About Chain O’Lakes Correctional Facility:

Chain O’Lakes Community Re‑Entry Center is a minimum‑security facility located in Albion, Indiana, with a capacity of 140 incarcerated adult males. Positioned within Chain O’Lakes State Park in Noble County, the center provides a unique natural setting focused on the final 12-36 months of an individual’s sentence. Incarcerated individuals participate in educational and treatment programs designed to support re‑entry. The facility also operates work crews that help maintain Pokagon State Park, Chain O’Lakes State Park, and other community projects. Partnerships with agencies such as the Noble County Surveyor’s Office and the Indiana Department of Transportation, give incarcerated individuals hands‑on work experience. Role Overview:

As an Accountant, you will be based at the facility and will process Accounts Payable, Recreation Fund, and Miscellaneous Fund transactions. This position is responsible for processing transactions associated with the payment of invoices in PeopleSoft.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Post transactions to appropriate ledgers and accounts.
  • Verify accuracy of all financial documents and records.
  • Reconcile accounts and subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger.
