Your work helps producers and account teams deliver on their promises, reduces friction for clients, and ultimately supports Premera’s mission by connecting more people to coverage they can count on. The Account Specialist position contributes to Premera’s success by coordinating and participating in the necessary activities to sell new business and/or retain existing business across multiple regions. The Account Specialist furnishes personalized, proactive, preemptive and reactive customer support and service ensuring Premera’s client groups have a positive customer experience. The Account Specialist is expected to manage a large number of complex transactions, must be comfortable with deadlines and have experience working cross-functionally. This role is generally assigned to small and/or medium size groups or to accounts requiring a moderate level of service.

What you will do:

Document, communicate and monitor internal and external timelines required to guarantee renewal or new sale implementation success for the defined market segment. Ensure that producer and/or employer group data submissions are accurate, complete and meets the assigned deadlines. May work with Underwriting and other internal departments to develop alternative benefit quotes, request revisions, obtain explanation of rate action, and approval of effective date. Attend or conduct employee meetings and/or benefit fairs. Research and resolve producer and group level service issues. Provide support to others within the team on more complex service issues; providing resolution and root cause analysis. Maintain appropriate sales systems including account info, quoting business, generating proposals, renewal exhibits and accurate reporting. Assist with departmental and corporate projects. May participate in system User Acceptance Testing for system enhancements. Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:

Associate’s degree or two (2) years’ work experience (Required).

Three (3) years of work experience (Required) which includes:

  • Two (2) years of experience in sales, benefit enrollment, benefit administration, or a related area (Required).
  • One (1) year of customer service experience (Required).

Possess or obtain Agent's license within 60 days of hire and appointed with Office of Insurance Commissioner or DOI (Required).

A Bachelors degree.

Knowledge of Premera products, operations, policies and underwriting guidelines.

Experience with Seibel or other CRM applications helpful but not required.

Three (3) years of benefit administration, enrollment and/or sales account structure experience.

What you will gain:

Cross-functional stakeholder management: You will continue to learn how to influence without authority—getting Sales, Account Management, Underwriting, and Ops aligned so work moves on time and nothing falls through the cracks.

Risk & deadline management (operational rigor): You will build the ability to spot upstream risks early (missing data, timing conflicts, policy constraints), prioritize quickly, and keep complex workstreams moving under tight deadlines.

Root-cause problem solving: Beyond fixing issues, you will gain skills in diagnosing why something happened, documenting it clearly, and preventing repeat problems through better process or communication.

Client-ready communication: You will continue to develop confidence translating technical/administrative details (rates, eligibility, effective dates, plan changes) into clear, calm explanations that build trust with producers and employer groups.

Systems fluency & data quality discipline: You will strengthen your ability to work in CRMs and quoting/reporting tools with precision—learning what “clean data” looks like and how it impacts downstream teams and customer experience.
