Job summary

Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs seeks a donor relations professional to manage a donor portfolio, emphasize retention, and grow gift sizes through strategic engagement. The role blends personal solicitation, stewardship, and data-driven donor management within our Family Advancement team.

The ideal candidate has 2–4 years in development or planned giving, a business-focused degree with PR/communications emphasis, and strong CRM/microsoft office skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business with Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing emphasis preferred.
  • 2–4 years of development, sales, and/or planned giving experience preferred.
  • Proven fundraising track record and experience managing small donor accounts.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and experience with CRM and donor management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Focus on the Family to donors, foundations, and planned givers.
  • Maintain strong relationships with a portfolio of donors; focus on retention and gift size growth.
  • Cultivate relationships with mid-range donors and qualify Major Donor Prospects.
  • Retain and lift donor giving through personal solicitation, communication, and stewardship.
  • Record donor communications and service in the CRM tool.
  • Participate in fundraising strategy and department meetings.
  • Engage with internal/external relationships and events at Focus on the Family campus.

Job description

Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Focus on the Family has nearly 700 employees who work to achieve the mission of enriching the lives of families, engaging the culture, advocating for life and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Represents Focus on the Family to donors, foundations, and planned givers. Maintains strong relationships with a portfolio of 800 donors with significant emphasis on personal communication (phone calls, correspondence, email, etc.)
  • Is responsible for increasing retention and average gift size of portfolio through strategic cultivation and stewardship
  • Cultivates relationships with mid-range donors, learning about their personal interests and connecting them with Focus on the Family’s core mission for further engagement; is responsible for identifying and qualifying Major Donor Prospects and transitioning them to a Family Advancement Representative for additional development
  • As a portfolio goal, retains and lifts donor giving through (but not limited to) personal solicitation, acknowledgment, stewardship, relationship building, ongoing communication, etc.
  • Maintains an accurate record of donor communication and service in customer relationship management tool
  • Maintains an in depth understanding of the ministry’s core competencies and programs
  • Participates in departmental meetings, strategic planning, and fundraising discussions within the Family Advancement department
  • Builds relationships, communicates, and connects effectively with both internal and external relationships
  • Fosters and builds relationships with caseload donors at internal events held on the Focus campus.
Other Duties/Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., printed pieces, photography, voice work, video, music, etc.) for distribution in all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, DVD and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which will be for the benefit of Focus on the Family

  • Ability to speak, hear, and see clearly; Ability to maneuver multiple computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)
  • Fast paced, high stress, frequent changes in process and procedures
  • May be asked to work evenings and Saturdays as needed to increase donor connections
  • Vacation requests will only be granted on a limited basis from December 15 – January 15 to support year end giving – the busiest time of the year

Knowledge/Experience

Stewardship Requirements
  • Nine-member team is responsible for $17 to 18M in revenue

Pay Range: $30.02 to $35.95
