Job Summary
The Account Manager develops new business, stimulates sales growth of existing and new accounts, manages all region leads, on‑boards new customers, and sells the full range of products and services. The role is responsible for driving profitable sales growth through the retention and expansion of revenue at current customers and acquiring new customers within a defined geographic territory.
Responsibilities
- Qualify new sales leads.
- Build and maintain relationships within the contact base and represent the company’s brands professionally.
- Partner with customers to drive proactive solutions to meet their needs and requirements.
- Demonstrate products to customers effectively.
- Coordinate order management activities: order entry, contract review, on‑time delivery performance, inventory maintenance, special handling requirements, product specification maintenance, returns, and other customer‑related activities.
- Engage in re‑activation campaigns within the region to re‑engage dormant accounts.
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to identify emerging customer needs, cost‑saving opportunities, competitive threats, and revenue enhancement opportunities.
- Develop and monitor a sales plan to achieve annualized account‑level goals.
- Continuously educate customers on product offerings, becoming a prime resource through technical value and problem solving.
- Call on vendor partners as necessary to enhance solution‑selling capacity.
- Operate effectively in a team‑selling environment.
- Maintain, track, and update a growing and robust opportunity funnel for the assigned territory.
- Strategically understand industry trends affecting customers and identify initiatives to relate trends to customer opportunities.
- Establish good relationships with customers and teams, building an effective network of contacts.
- Focus on customer needs and satisfaction; resolve customer issues quickly and accurately; consistently achieve project goals.
- Expand products and technical knowledge in support of the customer base.
- Follow up on quotes and inquiries in a timely manner.
- Monitor key performance indicators to identify gaps in customer profitability or service levels and proactively collaborate with cross‑functional resources to resolve them.
- Schedule in‑person visits with selected customers as needed.
- Record and maintain all customer‑related and sales activity information in the CRM system.
- Be indirectly and directly responsible for product quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Distribution, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, or Business Administration preferred.
- Minimum 2+ years of industrial sales experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of electronics distribution experience preferred.
- Familiarity with CRM systems.
- Experience in sales pipeline/funnel management (a plus).
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Valid driver’s license and frequent travel required.
- Daily/weekly travel to existing and potential customer sites.
- Majority of work performed outside the home branch office.
- Attendance at a variety of business meetings as required.
- Demonstrated ability to meet established sales goals and secure profitability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, time‑management, and presentation skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform essential job functions in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance in accordance with applicable regulations.
