Job description

Role Purpose / Position Summary

The Account Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining strong relationships with customers, ensuring timely and accurate processing of orders, and overseeing the efficient flow of materials to meet customer demand. This role involves collaboration with internal teams, such as production, logistics, and quality control, to ensure efficient plant operations and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Accountabilities / Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and nurture strong, long‑lasting relationships with customers; understand customer needs, preferences, and expectations to provide personalized service; ensure customer reports and information are accurate and communicated in a timely fashion; interface with customer reporting systems; manage procurement of customer‑owned raw materials; assist in new product launches; handle customer issues and complaints.
  • Order Processing: Receive and process customer orders accurately and efficiently; verify order details; prepare job files and project specifications; track fulfillment; communicate shortages; provide information on product availability.
  • Material Inventory Management: Participate in material planning; drive changes to inventory levels; minimize obsolescence, scrap, and aged inventories; analyze yield, usage, and loss; coordinate with production and procurement.
  • Supply Chain Coordination: Collaborate with supply chain teams and logistics for timely procurement; oversee raw and packaging materials; facilitate on‑time deliveries.
  • Problem‑Solving: Address customer‑related supply chain issues; resolve order discrepancies, shipping delays, and quality concerns.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Maintain clear communication with customers; negotiate terms, pricing, and delivery schedules; manage contracts and agreements.
  • Data Analysis: Track order performance and customer buying patterns; provide insights for strategic decisions.
  • Quality Focus & Continuous Improvement: Ensure materials meet quality controls; collaborate to resolve quality issues; identify opportunities for process optimization and improve policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Capability Profile
  • Minimum education: high school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in purchasing or material planning, purchasing, or materials management in food manufacturing.
  • Track record in improving inventory accuracy, reducing inventory levels, and lowering freight costs.
  • Strong math and typing skills, basic business acumen, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational, people, and project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, material flow, and improvement strategies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Nulogy, Tableau, and related computer systems.
  • Leadership, budget management, vendor/contractor management, and metric development experience.
  • Ability to identify and propose solutions for production challenges.
