Job description

Position Overview

The Account Manager / Production Manager (Hybrid) serves as a versatile operational and client-facing leader within Commercial Grounds Management. This dual-focus position acts as the central hub for site success, combining proactive client relationship management, enhancement sales, and customer retention with direct hands-on leadership of field crews, daily route scheduling, and quality assurance.

By bridging the gap between client expectations and field execution, you will drive operational efficiency, champion safety standards, meet enhancement targets, and maintain a high standard of regional landscape excellence. The ideal candidate is a disciplined self-starter who possesses both strong operational acumen and the high interpersonal skills required to build lasting client partnerships while leading diverse field teams.

Core Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
  • Strategic Partnership: Act as the primary contact for commercial clients, property managers, contractors, and subcontractors, fostering long-term relationships through proactive and consistent communication.
  • Portfolio Retention: Execute customer retention strategies to maintain high client satisfaction, resolve service concerns within 24 hours, and secure ongoing contract renewals.
  • Adaptive Communication: Tailor communication styles to match client personas, providing formal presentations for HOA boards, succinct ROI-focused reports for commercial property managers, and technical updates for high-touch buyers.
  • Conflict Resolution: Proactively identify and resolve client issues before they escalat—maintaining high retention rates across your assigned portfolio.
  • Enhancement Identification: Perform routine site assessments to identify landscape improvement opportunities (e.g., seasonal color updates, drainage solutions, mulch applications, turf treatments).
  • Proposal Development: Utilize internal quoting systems to generate professional, accurate, and timely proposals for enhancements and ancillary services to meet monthly revenue goals.
  • Consultative Selling: Educate clients on the long-term benefits of property upgrades, site improvements, and proper horticultural stewardship.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with estimating and design teams to bring complex, high-value enhancement projects from concept to execution.
Field Leadership & Operational Execution
  • Crew Management & Logistics: Direct daily crew scheduling, optimize service routes, manage labor hours against budget, and ensure proper equipment deployment. Recruit, train, and mentor field staff and crew leaders.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Conduct routine, documented property inspections to ensure work meets contract specifications and high aesthetic standards. Ensure jobs are executed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Procurement & Asset Oversight: Coordinate the procurement and delivery of job-site materials (plants, fertilizers, mulch). Ensure assigned fleet vehicles, trailers, and equipment are kept clean, inspected, and properly maintained in coordination with the shop mechanic.
  • Seasonal & Emergency Operations: Support branch-wide emergency and seasonal operations, including winter weather response, storm cleanup, and peak-season scheduling.
  • Safety Leadership: Enforce company safety protocols, lead weekly tailgate safety meetings, and mandate the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and chemical/equipment safety practices.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Maintain high standards of horticultural knowledge regarding turfgrass management, plant identification, pruning practices, chemical applications, and general commercial maintenance.
  • Company Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to all company policies, standard operating practices, and administrative duties (e.g., logging labor hours, submitting daily reports via landscape management software).
  • Professional Representation: Consistently project a professional image by wearing company-provided uniforms and maintaining standard brand representation in the field.
Professional Requirements & Certifications
Education & Experience
  • Minimum: 2–4 years of combined experience in commercial landscape operations, account management, or supervisory field leadership; OR an equivalent combination of education and field experience.
  • Preferred: 2-year or 4-year degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Landscape Architecture, Business, or a related field.
Licensing & Technical Advancement
  • Driver’s License: Valid Driver’s License issued from the State where the Company conducts business with a clean, insurable driving record (Required).
  • Required Path to Mastery: If not already held, the candidate must be willing and able to obtain the following within the first year of employment:

  • Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) or related industry certification
  • Completion of internal management and leadership modules
Technical & Communication Skills
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient with mobile devices/tablets and industry software (e.g., Aspire, BOSS, LMN, Jobber) for time tracking, site documentation, and daily reporting.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build client rapport, motivate diverse field crews, and resolve conflicts effectively. Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) are a strong plus.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and navigate diverse terrain during site walks.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a routine basis and perform physical tasks (bending, stooping, kneeling) as required for site inspections.
