The City of Evanston is seeking an Accessible Rec Care Attendant for a seasonal role focused on providing medical and supervision services to individuals with disabilities. Responsibilities include administering medications, supporting recreation participation, and ensuring the safety of participants during programming activities. Applicants must be licensed LPNs with relevant experience and certifications. Openings will be available during the summer season, with flexible scheduling based on programming needs.
Must be a current LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) in the state of Illinois
Must have experience working with individuals with disabilities, including individuals with medically complex needs
Current CPR and First Aid certification
NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) certification required
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen
Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic in order to provide quality experiences for our participants
Administer all prescription medications as ordered and based on participant care plans
Safely store all medications at the program site
Keep a daily log of medication administration and any additional care provided
Administer G-tube feedings and other medical services approved by the Parks & Rec Department
Provide first aid services to manage any participant illnesses or injuries
Assist with supervision and safety of individuals with disabilities including implementing behavior management plans and NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) techniques, once certified
Demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment
Maintain effective and open communication with Program Coordinator/leader and other staff with information concerning participants’ needs or situations related to programming
Provide individualized support as needed to ensure participants’ successful participation in activities
Must be able to follow directions, policies, and procedures
Enthusiastically implement and participate in activities
Maintain a professional attitude with participants, families, other staff, and community members
Attend mandatory trainings
Complete availability forms, documentation, and other materials as needed, in a timely manner
Maintain own schedule and submit electronic timesheets in a timely manner, as guided by the City payroll schedule
Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds with mechanical assistance or team lift
Maintain program facilities in a neat and orderly manner
Gather, load, transport and set up equipment
Perform other duties as assigned by Medical Director and/or Program Coordinator

Description:
The Accessible Rec Care Attendant is responsible for supervision and implementation of medical care required for children, teens, and adults with various types of disabilities based on their unique care plans and needs. This includes but is not limited to administration of medications and G-tube feedings and first aid that may be required for ill or injured participants. The Care Attendant assists with supervision and safety of participants and provides individualized support and assistance with the organization and implementation of activities to enable successful recreation participation.

Rate:
Starting at $25.00/ hour
Schedule:
This is a seasonal position that includes three consecutive weeks during the summer (July 1 - July 18, 2025.) The schedule will include weekdays Monday - Friday, 9am-3pm. Additional hours may be available based on Accessible Recreation programming needs.
Supervision:
This position is supervised by the Health & Human Services Department Medical Director.
