Job summary

The State of Montana invites applications for a Civil Rights Officer in the Department of Labor & Industry. The role leads civil-rights compliance, accessibility coordination, complaint oversight, and program monitoring to ensure fair and accessible public services across Montana.

You will work with Legal Services, Human Resources, investigators, and partners to strengthen systems, provide training, and advance ADA Title II, WIOA compliance, and language-access initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in civil-rights compliance, accessibility, or related regulatory work.
  • Experience interpreting laws, rules, and program requirements for practical public-service delivery.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing confidential records, investigations, or sensitive concerns with discretion.
  • Ability to organize priorities, maintain documentation, and meet deadlines.
  • WIOA Equal Opportunity Officer designation or ability to obtain it.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate accessible services across Department programs and services.
  • Lead equal-opportunity compliance and oversee required notices, data collection, and monitoring.
  • Manage complaint processes, investigate when needed, and maintain case records.
  • Strengthen compliance systems and identify practical improvements.
  • Monitor programs and providers, tracking corrective actions to completion.
  • Analyze trends using complaints and monitoring data to inform improvements.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff, leadership, and partners.
  • Build collaborative partnerships to resolve issues and strengthen public service.
