Job description

Access Control Technician

Tired of being the person everyone counts on while working somewhere that doesn't seem to recognize what you bring to the table?

You know construction. You can look at a set of plans, figure out what needs to happen, and get your hands dirty making it happen. You're dependable, you take pride in quality work, and when there's a problem in the field, you're usually one of the people trying to solve it.

But maybe your current job has become exactly that—a job.

What if your next move gave you the chance to travel the country, build specialized skills, take on more responsibility, and become part of a team that's actually going somewhere?

What could your career look like two years from now if you joined the right company today?

That's something you'll have to come talk to us to find out.

We're Looking for a Certain Kind of Person

Empire is looking for an Access Control Technician to join our security gate and fence installation team.

But we're not simply looking for someone who checks every box on a job description.

We're looking for the person who takes ownership.

You're construction-minded and comfortable working with your hands. You notice when something isn't right and fix it instead of walking past it. You're willing to teach what you know and humble enough to learn what you don't.

You can work beside a crew, communicate with a project manager, and eventually be the person others look to when a decision needs to be made.

Most importantly, people can count on you.

Our Core Values

Grit
Construction doesn't always cooperate. Weather changes. Plans change. Problems happen. You don't fold when the day gets difficult—you figure out the next move.

Loyalty
You take care of your team, your customers, and the company you're representing. When you're hundreds of miles from home working alongside your crew, that matters.

Enjoying the Journey
We take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Our people hunt, fish, follow sports, race, spend time outdoors, and get home to their families. You'll work hard here, but you'll work alongside people you'd actually want to spend time with.

Integrity
You do quality work whether someone is standing over your shoulder or not. Your name means something to you.

Positive Mindset
Anyone can point out a problem. We want the person who starts figuring out how to solve it.

Sound like you? Keep reading.

This Isn't a Sit-Behind-a-Desk Career

You'll travel nationwide installing access control systems, security gates, and fencing. Travel is approximately 50–75%, and you need to be comfortable being away for up to two weeks at a time.

For the right person, that's part of what makes this opportunity different.

You'll see different parts of the country, tackle different projects, develop specialized skills, and build things you can physically stand back and look at when the project is finished.

Empire pays for your hotel while traveling and provides a $50-per-day per diem on top of your regular compensation.

Your work will include:

  • Working as a key member of access control, security gate, and fence installation crews
  • Reading and following blueprints, job plans, and project specifications
  • Performing low-voltage electrical work, including wiring gate operators and access control systems
  • Working with concrete, including preparing for and pouring concrete
  • Welding and fabrication-related work
  • Operating heavy equipment
  • Safely loading, securing, and organizing materials, tools, and equipment on trailers
  • Learning and applying access control and gate installation techniques
  • Communicating daily job progress with project managers and the team
  • Identifying quality issues and helping determine root causes and corrective actions
  • Maintaining tools and equipment so they're ready when the crew needs them
  • Keeping jobsites, vehicles, trailers, and work areas organized
  • Upholding Empire's safety expectations on every project
  • Taking ownership of whatever else needs to happen to get the project across the finish line
You're Probably a Fit If...

You have at least two years of construction experience, preferably with fence, access control, security gates, or field quality control.

You have experience working with concrete and aren't afraid of welding, equipment, electrical work, or learning a new skill.

You can safely load and secure materials and equipment on a trailer.

You're comfortable working outside when it's hot, cold, dusty, windy, or simply not the kind of day someone sitting in an office would choose to work in.

You're organized enough to keep track of the details but practical enough to keep a project moving.

You communicate well with both the people swinging the tools and the people managing the project.

You can use Microsoft Office and aren't intimidated by technology.

You think critically. You ask questions. You solve problems.

You're safety-minded and maintain a clean driving record and valid driver's license.

You can lift up to 80 pounds and handle the physical demands of construction work.

OSHA 10 is required. OSHA 30 is a plus.

Above all, you show up—on time, ready to work, with the right attitude.

What Could This Job Change for You?

Maybe you're looking for more than another construction job.

Maybe you want to become the person who understands the entire access control system instead of only one piece of the installation.

Maybe you want opportunities to lead.

Maybe you'd like to travel while someone else pays for the hotel—and put an extra $50 per day in your pocket while you're on the road.

Maybe you want benefits that help you build a life outside of work.

Empire offers:

  • $25.00–$35.00 per hour, based on experience and ability
  • Company-paid hotels while traveling
  • $50/day travel per diem on top of regular compensation
  • 401(k)
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development assistance

But benefits and pay only tell part of the story.

The bigger question is:

Who could you become if you were surrounded by people who expected more from you—and gave you the opportunity to deliver it?

We won't tell you this job is easy.

We'll tell you that the right person can build something here.

A career. Specialized skills. Relationships. Experiences. A reputation.

And hopefully a life where there's still room for hunting season, fishing trips, race weekends, sports, and time with the people who matter most.

If you're looking for the easiest construction job you can find, this probably isn't it.

If you're looking for the job you actually want instead of settling for the job you've got, we'd like to meet you.
