Job summary

Williamson County is seeking an Access Control Technician II to perform complex routine and emergency maintenance for building access across county facilities. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Completion of Williamson County Detention Lock Training.
  • Demonstrated skill in basic locksmithing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry.
  • Basic computer skills such as email, word processing programs, and data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Completes various maintenance work orders related to locks, closures, and automatic controls systems for all Williamson County buildings.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems that provide automatic access to various buildings.
  • Installs new access control equipment such as doors, hinges, locks, panic bars, actuators, sensors, and other related digital control components.
  • Issues access badges and keys to county employees.
  • Creates and maintains various reports, forms, worksheets, and informational materials related to key distribution and needs.
  • Conducts quality control on access control operating systems by performing routine assessments.
  • Performs locksmith duties and aids county departments with residential, commercial and detention locks.
  • Collaborates with other department divisions to provided maintenance assistance with electrical repairs.

Job description

FUNDING FOR THIS POSITION WILL BE EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2026


Reporting directly to an Access Control Supervisor, responsible for performing complex routine, and emergency maintenance repairs associated to the daily building access of Williamson County facilities for the Facilities Management Department. Level II of III in Access Control Technicians.



  • Completes various maintenance work orders related to locks, closures, and automatic controls systems for all Williamson County buildings

  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems that provide automatic access to various buildings

  • Installs new access control equipment such as doors, hinges, locks, panic bars, actuators, sensors, and other related digital control components

  • Issues access badges and keys to county employees

  • Creates and maintains various reports, forms, worksheets, and informational materials related to key distribution and needs

  • Conducts quality control on access control operating systems by performing routine assessments

  • Performs locksmith duties and aids county departments with residential, commercial and detention locks

  • Collaborates with other department divisions to provided maintenance assistance with electrical repairs

  • Assists with inventory control by distributing supplies to staff and maintains inventory

  • Serves as department liaison and provides oversight to contractors, vendors, and other external parties

  • Cross-trains with staff in other areas to ensure continuity of departmental operations

  • Performs general maintenance repairs and assists with completing work orders as needed

  • Attends all training and meetings as required

  • Performs special duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


  • Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle

  • Position involves climbing ladders, carrying toolboxes, and operating hand and power tools

  • Position involves bending, kneeling, crawling, and maneuvering in and around all kinds of equipment

  • Position involves lifting a minimum of 50 pounds to waist height

  • Position involves seeing and hearing as well as perceiving colors

  • Position involves writing and reading to a size 10 font


ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS


  • Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather

  • Regular travel between work sites

  • Must be prepared to work in attics, crawl spaces and on rooftops

  • Contact with persons accused or convicted of crimes

  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, bacteria, fungus, and high noise levels


IRREGULAR HOURS


  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required

  • Performs on call duty on a rotational basis

  • May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency

  • Regular attendance is required

  • Vocational degree in a related field
