Job summary

Fermilab in Batavia is seeking an Accelerator Operator to support particle accelerators, beam transport systems, and experimental beamlines. You will learn in a comprehensive On-the-Job Training program and work with a team in the Main Control Room to operate complex accelerator systems.

The role emphasizes safety, collaboration, and ongoing learning, with opportunities to contribute to PIP-II and future Fermilab operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics from an accredited college or university.
• 0–2+ years of relevant experience.
• Ability to successfully complete Accelerator Operator I OJT and qualification program.
• Ability to learn and apply fundamental physics concepts, accelerator principles, operating procedures, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Learn accelerator operations through an extensive OJT program while working in the Main Control Room with experienced Operators.
• Operate accelerators and beam transport systems in the accelerator complex.
• Monitor beams, equipment status, alarms, interlocks, and operating parameters.
• Perform basic technical repairs and maintenance of equipment, including electronics and control systems.
• Learn and follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), accelerator safety, electrical safety, radiation safety, and operating procedures.
