Job summary

ROME GROUP is seeking an Illinois-licensed teacher to serve as the Academic & Vocational Integration Instructor for our YouthBuild St. Clair County program. The role delivers high school coursework and integrates construction-related concepts with academic content.

You will teach English/Language Arts, math, science, and technology, while remediation and project-based instruction help students with interrupted education build real-world skills and pursue national construction credentials.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois PEL with an appropriate teaching endorsement (REQUIRED).
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with opportunity youth or related populations.
• Ability to teach across multiple academic subjects.
• Strong classroom management and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

TAKE (Teens Against Killing Everywhere) is seeking an experienced, creative Illinois-licensed teacher to serve as the Academic & Vocational Integration Instructor for our YouthBuild St. Clair County program.

This position teaches academic coursework required for high school diploma attainment, including English/Language Arts, mathematics, science, social science, technology, and other required subjects.

YouthBuild serves opportunity youth ages 16-24, including students who may have experienced interrupted education, significant academic gaps, learning differences, IEP histories, or difficulty succeeding in traditional classroom environments. We are looking for an educator who knows how to teach differently through remediation, creativity, hands-on learning, project-based instruction, and real-world applications.

The instructor collaborates with construction training staff to integrate vocational concepts into academic lessons. Academic instruction should reinforce the reading, math, science, technology, communication, and problem-solving skills students need to succeed in vocational education and attain nationally recognized construction credentials.

What You’ll Do

• Teach academic coursework required for high school diploma attainment, including English/Language Arts, mathematics, science, social science, and technology.
• Provide academic remediation in reading, writing, mathematics, comprehension, and foundational skills.
• Teach students functioning at different academic levels within the same classroom.
• Develop creative, hands-on, project-based, visual, experiential, and real-world lessons.
• Differentiate instruction for students with learning disabilities, IEP histories, significant academic gaps, and different learning styles.
• Provide individualized and small-group academic intervention.
• Connect academic coursework to employment, independent living, skilled trades, and everyday life.
• Collaborate with construction instructors to integrate vocational concepts into academic lessons.
• Reinforce academic concepts connected to HBI PACT, MC3, OSHA, and other construction training, including measurement, applied math, technical reading, vocabulary, science, technology, workplace documents, and problem-solving.
• Support the academic skills students need to attain nationally recognized construction credentials.
• Monitor student progress and modify instructional approaches when students are not mastering concepts.
• Maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment with empathy, consistency, accountability, and high expectations.
• Maintain grades, academic records, progress documentation, and required program records.

Required Qualifications

• Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an appropriate teaching endorsement - REQUIRED.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working with opportunity youth, justice-involved youth, at-risk youth, adult learners, or students experiencing significant educational barriers.
• Experience providing academic remediation and differentiated instruction.
• Ability to teach and support instruction across multiple academic subject areas.
• Experience teaching students functioning at varying academic levels.
• Ability to develop creative instruction that connects academics to real-world skills and vocational education.
• Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and documentation skills.

Preferred Experience

• Special education experience, including working with students with IEPs, learning disabilities, or significant academic skill deficits.
• Adult education, alternative education, credit recovery, dropout re-engagement, or other nontraditional education experience.
• Experience teaching students performing several grade levels below expected academic levels.
• Project-based, experiential, and hands-on teaching experience.
• Experience developing individualized remediation strategies.
• Experience integrating career or vocational concepts into academic coursework.

Compensation & Benefits
