Qualifications

Purpose

Purpose: The Academic Support Center (ASC) provides structured academic interventions designed to remove learning barriers, improve student achievement, and increase graduation success. The ASC is not a disciplinary placement. It is a Tier 2/Tier 3 instructional support environment where students receive targeted academic assistance, credit recovery support, intervention services, and individualized instruction based on academic data.

The ASC teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, administration, social workers, and special education staff to ensure students receive timely interventions while remaining accountable for classroom expectations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
  • Experience working with at-risk or alternative education students preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Academic Intervention
  • Provide targeted academic instruction for students demonstrating academic deficiencies.
  • Deliver small-group and individualized instruction aligned to student learning needs.
  • Re-teach essential standards using differentiated instructional strategies.
  • Assist students in mastering missing prerequisite skills.
  • Monitor student academic progress using curriculum-based assessments.
  • Credit Recovery Support
  • Facilitate daily Credit Recovery Accountability Support periods.
  • Monitor student progress within Edmentum and other online learning platforms.
  • Verify completion of assignments, assessments, and required coursework.
  • Reset assessments when appropriate in accordance with program procedures.
  • Communicate academic deficiencies with classroom teachers.
  • Student Accountability
  • Maintain high academic expectations while fostering positive relationships.
  • Encourage student ownership of learning.
  • Develop academic goal-setting plans with students.
  • Reinforce organizational skills, study habits, and time management.
  • Intervention Planning
  • Review student academic data including:
    • Exact Path diagnostics
    • Classroom grades
    • Credit deficiencies
    • Missing assignments
    • Assessment performance
    • Progress monitoring data
  • Recommend additional academic interventions during MTSS meetings.
  • Assist in developing student intervention plans.
The ASC teacher will maintain accurate documentation of:
  • Student attendance in ASC
  • Intervention services provided
  • Academic growth
  • Credit recovery progress
  • Student goals
  • Prepare reports for administrative review.
  • Classroom Environment
  • Maintain a structured, calm, academically focused learning environment.
  • Establish routines that promote independence and student accountability.
  • Ensure instructional materials are organized and readily available.
  • Daily Responsibilities
  • Facilitate Academic Support Center instructional sessions.
  • Monitor daily Credit Recovery Accountability Support.
  • Assist students with coursework from all content areas.
  • Support students in completing missing assignments.
  • Monitor Edmentum progress.
  • Contact teachers regarding student academic needs.
  • Document interventions provided.
  • Review student academic goals.
  • Update intervention records.
The ASC Teacher/Coordinator will:
  • Increase student course completion rates.
  • Improve student academic achievement.
  • Support on-time graduation and credit attainment.
  • Reduce course failures.
  • Improve student engagement with academic tasks.
  • Maintain accurate intervention documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with staff and administration.
  • Utilize data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Uphold the mission and expectations of the R.I.S.E. Program.
The ASC teacher will work collaboratively with:
  • Classroom teachers

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of MTSS and Response to Intervention practices

Work Environment:
  • Work is generally performed in a standard office setting with moderate noise levels (e.g., conversations, printers, phones).

  • Work hours are typically during the standard business day, but occasional evening or weekend work may be required for meetings or events.
