The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) seeks an academic rheumatologist to join the Section of Rheumatology in the Division of Clinical Immunology, Department of Medicine. This is an open rank faculty appointment. We welcome physicians completing fellowship in 2027, as well as early and mid career academic rheumatologists.
An established practice from day one. As Mississippi's only academic medical center, UMMC receives referrals from across the state. You will see a high volume of lupus, vasculitis, inflammatory arthritis, and gout, including the state's most complex cases.
Teaching from the start. The division's fellowship is embedded in faculty clinics. You will teach and mentor fellows from day one.
Protected time and support. Protected time for scholarship is tailored to your goals. The NIH funded Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research offers mentorship, pilot funding, and salary support for protected research effort. An initial period of salary protection is provided while you build your practice.
Research partners ready now. An NIH funded lupus investigator on campus is seeking a clinical rheumatology partner. Nephrology is building a lupus nephritis and glomerular disease program. Industry sponsored lupus trials are already active. Faculty also have access to the Jackson Heart Study, Epic Cosmos, TriNetX, and UMMC's cellular therapy infrastructure. UMMC is also one of only two federally designated Telehealth Centers of Excellence in the country.
Room to grow. This hire is the first step in a plan to expand Rheumatology. Opportunities include fellowship education, clinical research, and, over time, section and division leadership.
Outpatient clinics at the University Medical Pavilion, precepting fellow clinics, and inpatient consults shared among the faculty in rotation. Fellows take first call. Faculty provide limited night and weekend backup.
