Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) operates the Hawaii Job Corps Center in Makawao, HI. This full-time role involves delivering Reading and Basic Math instruction to students using approved curricula and supporting guidance aligned with government directives.

You will develop lessons, motivate students, and coordinate with staff to address training needs, while maintaining classroom standards and documenting progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and a valid teaching certificate are required or preferred.
• Experience with youth and communication/computer proficiency.
• One year instructional experience is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction to students in accordance with approved curricula.
• Provide basic direction, instruction and assistance in Reading and ELL.
• Motivate and counsel students in behavior, training, and study habits.
• Develop and prepare lessons; suggest curricula changes and materials.
• Relate academic skills to career technical training and workplace requirements.

What you will be doing: You’ll be responsible providing academic instruction to students in accordance with approved curricula. Provide students with basic direction, in compliance with government and management directives.

• Provide students with basic direction, instruction and assistance in designated area(s) of instruction. Reading & ELL.
• Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems or study habits; coordinate with other staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
• Develop and prepare lessons; recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials.
• Utilize workplace language and behavior expectations in the classroom; on a routine basis, relate academic skills to career technical training and workplace requirements; inquire if individual students need assistance.
• Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Valid teaching certificate, experience with youth, or PRAXIS exams, and communication/computer proficiency.
• One (1) year instructional experience preferred.
• A Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
