Job description

The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and Golisano Children’s Hospital are seeking an academic pediatric pulmonologist to join the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center.

Appointments at the Assistant or Associate Professor level are preferred and will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

About the Division and Resources

Our division operates a fully accredited CF Center, recognized with the CF Foundation’s Quality Award for two consecutive cycles, and is part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics Development Network. We are also one of the only centers in New York State outside NYC that participates in the Children’s Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease Network (chILD).

We offer specialized and expanding programs in:

  • Severe Asthma
  • Aerodigestive Disorders
  • Neuromuscular Diseases
  • Complex Care for technology-dependent children

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care across a diverse pediatric population
  • Participate in teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Contribute to program development and division administration
  • Engage in and support the division’s research initiatives
  • Opportunity to lead the Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program
  • Protected research time available depending on interest and division needs

Clinical resources include:

  • Recently updated flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy equipment
  • A comprehensive pediatric Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) lab offering:
    • Spirometry
    • Body plethysmography
    • Multiple breath washout/lung clearance index
    • Oscillometry
    • Exhaled nitric oxide measurements

These resources are available for both clinical care and research.

Research & Fellowship Training Opportunities

The University of Rochester offers robust support for clinical research in pediatric respiratory disease. The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), KL2, and Department of Pediatrics K12 grant programs provide infrastructure and funding for junior faculty.

The division maintains an accredited Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program, and the opportunity to lead this training program is available.

Qualifications

Required

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Pulmonology
  • Current employment as faculty or fellow in an academic medical center
  • Training or experience in the clinical care of cystic fibrosis
  • Proficiency in flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy
  • Strong clinical skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care

Preferred

  • Interest or experience in clinical research and/or program development
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring medical trainees
  • Leadership potential or experience, including interest in directing a fellowship program
