Job Description

Job Title: Academic Paraprofessional (2 positions)

Schools: Elementary Building(s) TBD

Do you want to make a difference in students and families? Is student literacy your passion? Are you a proactive educator who welcomes, appreciates, and respects all staff team members? Can you develop a school culture of pride and high achievement for students? Do you scout resources beyond school to provide opportunities and access for staff and students?

Who we are: Eastpointe Community Schools is in the business of transforming lives. Our partnership with the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD), Michigan Department of Education (MDE), and the University of Virginia's Partners for Leaders in Education (UVA-PLE) has created a unique opportunity for rapid district turnaround. Part of our continued growth and improvement involves increasing educational expectations, developing a culture of support, and nurturing all students to address academic, behavioral, and interpersonal needs.

We have energetic teacher and staff teams, data analysis, academic coaching, and extra-curricular activities opportunities, including after-school clubs/organizations in our schools. We offer 1:1 technology for our students, online programs that support academic curriculum, and multi-grade level field trips. We support our students with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

What we offer: While all schools face challenges, at Eastpointe we all roll up our sleeves and work together to get things done. Our district appreciates talents and skills that others may have missed and embraces disruptive leaders willing to challenge the status quo. As a paraprofessional in our district, you will work side by side with the principal and teacher leaders who will help move you and your program forward. You will support grade-level content, assessment, technology, and student testing. You will find tremendous opportunities for professional learning in Eastpointe, as continuous growth is an expectation for all employees. We pride ourselves on creating a culture of continuous improvement with educators who feel this work is a calling, and where every interaction with students counts.

What we are looking for: If you are passionate about student literacy, the PLC process, supporting excellent instruction, using student data, and growing strong relationships with families, students, and our community, we are looking for you! If you want to be a positive and productive member of a school team, and are looking for leadership opportunities, we want you!

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or 60 hours, or passed the ETS Test
  • Successful experience working with students preferred
  • Successful record of organization, communication, and leadership

Salary Data: $18.54 - $19.06 based on education and related experience as a paraprofessional or teacher.

This position is funded (in whole or in part) via Title I, Part A funds to provide supplemental academic support and targeted interventions for eligible students.

While all students attending the Title I school wide program school are eligible to participate in all aspects of the school wide program, the federal statute requires schools to particularly address the needs of low-achieving children and those at risk of not meeting the state student academic achievement standards. In order to know how best to address the needs of these students, the school by necessity needs to know which children have special needs. Also, in order to appropriately disaggregate data on the state assessment, school must identify children by gender, ethnicity, and by their status as economically disadvantaged, disabled, and/or limited-English proficient. Grant funded program services supplement and support but do not supplant or replace the general education program of the school district.
