Job Description
· Demonstrated ability to oversee skilled and unskilled persons using hand and power equipment in the art warehouse ceramics and sculpture studios in supervised and unsupervised settings,
· Delegating and directing the work activities of student employees,
· Ability to prioritize and complete an array of tasks in a complex and ever-changing work environment,
· Providing training of, developing procedures, and commitment to safe work practices in the laboratory to maintain the health and safety of all students and personnel in the ceramics and sculpture studios,
· Sculpture: proven experience operating, maintaining, and repairing major stationary shop equipment including but not limited to miter saw, table saw, band saw, jointer, planer arc, MIG / TIG welders, CNC routers, air compressors, and 3D printers,
· Ceramics: proven experience operating, maintaining, and repairing gas and electric kilns, pottery wheels, clay mixers, ceramic shell casting systems, and all hand-held power tools.
· Ceramics: clay, glaze, and casting slip mixing; loading and unloading of kilns and maintaining kiln carts and kiln ledger sheets in the kiln room,
· Experience with a wide range of 3D studio materials and processes in sculpture and ceramics, and the ability to guide students in proper material selection and safe use,
· Capability in light construction and repair projects,
· Maintaining ceramics and sculpture shop supply inventory, ordering and pickup of supplies as needed.
· The work requires advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with tasks performed under limited supervision using specialized tools and established standards. Problems are varied, complex, and occasionally ill-defined, requiring analysis, interpretation, and the development of new skills (e.g., tools, software, processes),
· The lab manager does not teach courses in the School of Art & Design but must be conversant in visual art culture, sculpture, and ceramics.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
· Other duties as assigned.
Salary Range
Salary Range $38,722 - $50,339; Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
