Job description

About Legal Prep

Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners. The school pairs high academic expectations with trauma-informed, restorative practices and strong social-emotional supports, resulting in high persistence, strong college outcomes, and very low rates of exclusionary discipline. Legal Prep's Indianapolis campus, opening in Fall 2026 to serve grades 6–12, will build on this successful model while forming deep partnerships with the city's legal, civic, and business communities to prepare students for college, careers, and leadership.

As a founding staff member, this individual will become an integral part of the instructional team and will work closely with teachers and school leadership to ensure every student receives the support necessary to succeed.

Academic Intervention
  • Provide small-group and individual academic interventions in reading, writing, and/or mathematics.
  • Support students who are performing below grade level through targeted instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify student needs and develop intervention plans.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain documentation of interventions.
  • Reinforce classroom instruction and help students build academic confidence.
Building Substitute Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom coverage for teachers as needed across grades 6 and 9.
  • Deliver lesson plans prepared by classroom teachers.
  • Maintain a structured, engaging, and productive classroom environment.
  • Implement classroom management practices consistent with Legal Prep's expectations.
  • Communicate with teachers regarding student progress and classroom activities during their absence.
Student Support
  • Build positive relationships with students and families.
  • Support restorative practices and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, lunch, transitions, and other school activities.
  • Participate in student support meetings as appropriate.
Founding Team Responsibilities
  • Assist with school-wide initiatives and special projects.
  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting school operations wherever needed.
  • Contribute to building a strong school culture and positive learning environment.
Qualifications

  • Valid Indiana teaching license preferred. Candidates who are eligible to obtain an Indiana Substitute Teacher Permit and who have strong instructional experience will also be considered.
  • Experience working with middle school and/or high school students preferred.
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and adapt to the changing needs of a growing school.
  • Candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in education or who are considering a pathway to becoming a licensed teacher are strongly encouraged to apply. As Legal Prep grows, this position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience and develop into a future teaching role.
