Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, School of Occupational Therapy

Location: Hickory, North Carolina

The Master of Occupational Therapy (OT) Fieldwork Coordinator is a full-time faculty member with additional responsibilities in the summer months (stipend included) that are contracted through a stipend. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the level I and level II fieldwork experiences. It is the role of the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator to act as a liaison between the student and the Fieldwork Educator at the facility. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator determines the most appropriate Fieldwork placement that will meet the student's needs. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is responsible for communicating with prospective fieldwork sites, establishing relationships with facilities, assuring a formal contract is in place, educating Fieldwork Educators, preparing essential documentation for experiences and communicating essential information to all involved pertaining to the Lenoir-Rhyne Occupational Therapy program. All positions are based on enrollment and subject to available funding.

Reporting

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Academic Fieldwork Coordinator reports to the Occupational Therapy program director and the dean of the College of Health Sciences

Essential Fieldwork Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities

• Implementing and following all fieldwork related ACOTE standards which includes compliance with Standards C.1.0
• Establishing and maintaining the necessary communication between the fieldwork site and Lenoir-Rhyne, including ensuring (with assistance of responsible staff) all written cooperative agreements between Lenoir-Rhyne and the fieldwork placement sites
• Assuring that all contracts are signed and reviewed prior to student placement
• Serving as a resource to the fieldwork sites in establishing and maintaining a suitable clinical educational program
• Maintaining current information files in the electronic tracking system on each fieldwork placement
• Communicating the procedures to students that include fieldwork education and placement
• Orienting all students to the purpose and procedures for fieldwork education
• Advising students in regards to fieldwork placement planning
• Assigning all eligible students to fieldwork experiences
• Providing information (that is not accessible by student) to the fieldwork site at least 4 weeks prior to the student’s arrival
• Communicating with students while they attend fieldwork through Canvas coursework, & email
• Ensuring that students receive proper assessment and supervision during the fieldwork experience by communicating with supervisors as needed
• Serving as liaison between to the Occupational Therapy program throughout the students’ fieldwork experiences, performing on-site visits scheduled on an as needed basis
• Coordinating continuing education for fieldwork educators on topics related to supervision, clinical education, and OT theory and practice
• The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator may actively supervise fieldwork students
• The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator enters grades for fieldwork after receiving student evaluations from the fieldwork educator
• The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator has the ultimate authority in assigning the student grade
• Establishing and assisting with any fieldwork remediation that is required for students
• Perform other duties as assigned by the program director or college dean

Qualifications

• Required Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) degree
• Required degree earned from an accredited occupational therapy program by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting agency
• Required certified nationally as an Occupational Therapist and/or eligible for licensure in North Carolina and South Carolina
• Required minimum of 2 years documented experience in the field of occupational therapy which must include clinical practice as an occupational therapist
• Preferred familiarity with fieldwork or involvement in fieldwork
• Preferred record of professional and academic experience/achievement
• Preferred commitment and capacity for teaching excellence, student mentorship, scholarly and professional engagement
