Job summary

Rush University Medical Center is seeking an Academic Coaching Specialist to support one-on-one and group tutoring for RUSH students, faculty, and other personnel. You will work with the CAE and college leaders to provide graduate-level instruction on academic practices, time management, and writing skills.

This non-student role requires a BA or MS and strong writing, listening, and distance-learning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess needs of each student and develop success plans for individuals and cohorts.

  • Collaborate with CAE manager, faculty, and staff to coordinate support services.
  • Promote CAE services through university-wide events.

Pay Range: $27.47 - $38.81 per hour

Summary

In conjunction with the manager, Center for Academic Excellence (CAE), the Academic Coaching Specialist is responsible for one-on-one and group tutoring and instruction of RUSH students, faculty, and other personnel on topics including but not limited to understanding best academic practices, time management, study skills, and writing skills. Under the Manager, Center for Academic Excellence's supervision, the Academic Specialist will work directly with faculty, program directors, advisors, and deans from each college to provide graduate-level instruction based on the needs of faculty/staff and each academic program.

THIS IS A NON-STUDENT EMPLOYMENT POSITION.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelors' or Masters' degree and four years of experience in humanities, education or sciences.
  • Experience in academic support for undergraduate or graduate level students.
  • Superior writing knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with teams and students from diverse communities and backgrounds.
  • Strong active listening skills.
  • Experience with distance learning support.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications and web conferencing software. Willing to learn new software platforms as needed.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience as a tutor or academic support administrator in writing/learning support services.
  • Experience working with a neurodiverse student population.
  • Two year's experience teaching writing skills at a university level.
Responsibilities
  • Assess the needs of each student based on their request and need.
  • Work directly with each person requesting assistance in both individual and group formats. Help develop success plans for individual students as well as cohorts of students.
  • Provide in-depth feedback on students' study plans and techniques.
  • Design and implement workshop curriculum to deliver information per request on topics such as supporting diverse student learners, study skills, time management, and other best academic best practices.
  • Communicate to the CAE manager any progress or lack of progress made with students utilizing CAE services.
  • In partnership with the CAE manager, develop and maintain bookings data collection tool.
  • Securely and confidentially utilize institutional student data per FERPA guidelines.
  • In conjunction with CAE manager, review support needs of each college per semester and make recommendations for support services.
  • Collaborate with library staff to provide research and reference materials support.
  • Collaborate with offices such as but not limited to the Student Accessibility Services and the Diversity Equity and Inclusion office to create unified student support across the institution.
  • Be familiar with resources across campus and connect students with appropriate resources as needed.
  • Assist in the promotion of the center through participation in university-wide events included but not limited to orientations, presentations, and CAE events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
