Faculty position employed by the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine, practicing in UT Health East Texas facilities.
The UT Tyler School of Medicine - Academic Department Chair will be broadly responsible for the administration of strategic, academic, and clinical initiatives within the Department of Preventive, Occupational, and Environmental Medicine. The Chair will ensure excellence in community engagement, education, and research within their department, and collaborate with UT Health East Texas system leaders to deliver top-quality clinical care (where applicable). The role includes participation in hospital committees, administrative duties, and providing education and training to residents, medical students, and other trainees. The Chair will also engage in research and outreach activities and provide professional leadership for departmental activities.
This faculty role is hired at the Professor or Associate Professor rank, depending on education and experience.
The first medical school in East Texas and part of the UT System, it focuses on training healthcare professionals for rural and underserved communities. The school offers 20 residency and fellowship programs, and a Master of Biotechnology program emphasizing medical research and biotech innovation. A new Medical Education Building is under construction, scheduled for completion in fall 2025, to support interdisciplinary education and expand the medical program.
