Job description

Work type: University Medical Line
Location: Stanford University
Categories: School of Medicine

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University seeks a basic or translational physician scientist to join the division as Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the University Medical Line. Applicants must hold an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent medical degree, with Board eligibility/certification (or equivalent training) in cardiovascular medicine, and current research experience across the cardiovascular disease clinical spectrum. We are particularly interested in highly motivated clinician candidates with research efforts focused on discovery science and/or translational science that can be applied to eventual diagnosis and treatment across the clinical spectrum of cardiovascular disease.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate should have clinical expertise in any of the cardiovascular medicine specialties and is expected to balance a clinical practice (minimum of 20% effort in ambulatory and inpatient settings) with a robust science program and contribute to the department’s mission through the mentoring and teaching of residents, fellows, and other graduate-level trainees associated with the Stanford University School of Medicine. The successful candidate should be an innovative scientist with a distinctive (as appropriate for rank) scholarly record of basic or translational research focused on prevention and/or treatment of cardiovascular disease, has the potential for influential publication, and the ability to conduct collaborative team science with teams in biology, biophysics, cell biology, genomics/gene expression, data science, or cellular assay development among other areas. Additionally, the potential for obtaining competitive research funding and ability to serve as the Primary Investigator of multidisciplinary research teams are highly desired.

The university's central functions of research and education depend on freedom of thought, and expression. The Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an open and respectful academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and perspectives. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion of how their work and experience will further these values.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Interested applicants should submit a detailed letter of interest, a current curriculum vitae, and the names of three references at Stanford Faculty Positions https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/en-us/job/494822/academic-cardiologist-physician-scientist-open-rank. References will not be contacted without the applicant’s consent. For questions, please contact Faculty Affairs Specialist, Melanie Gutierrez melanieg@stanford.edu.

The expected base pay range for this position is:

Assistant Professor: $291,000 – $318,000

Associate Professor: $333,000 – $353,000

Professor: $372,000 – $398,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
