Job summary

The Siebel School of Computing and Data Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking an Academic Advisor to support on-campus graduate programs. You will advise graduate students on degree requirements, coordinate orientations, and ensure policy compliance.

You will collaborate with the Graduate College and ISSS, serve as a petition reviewer, assist with OPT/CPT requests for international students, and participate in graduate student programming and recruiting activities.

The Siebel School of Computing and Data Science (SSCDS) atthe University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a globally recognized leader incomputing, data science, and interdisciplinary innovation. We are seeking applicants for the role of Academic Advisor. This role willsupport the advising and administrative operations in the Siebel School ofComputing and Data Science (SSCDS) graduate programs, with primaryresponsibility for on-campus graduate programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

AcademicAdvising:

• Advise current Siebel School ofComputing and Data Science graduate students on the fulfillment of degreerequirements and other academic needs.
• Work with other graduate academicadvisors and other professional staff in advising Siebel School of Computingand Data Science graduate students on the fulfillment of degree requirementsand other academic needs.
• Coordinate the orientationactivities of incoming graduate students such as school check-in activities andwelcome sessions.
• Maintain familiarity with school anduniversity graduate program procedures and ensure graduate program policies arein compliance with those of the University.

Coordinationwith the Graduate College and International Student & Scholar Services(ISSS):

• Serve as a Graduate College PetitionReviewer for the school.
• Assume responsibility in the degreeaudit process with other graduate academic advisors.
• Serve as a school contact forOptional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT)requests for international students in compliance with ISSS guidelines.
• Serve as a Thesis Reviewer and aschool contact for establishing doctoral examination committees for the school.

Participatein the graduate student programming and recruiting activities:

• Support administration of peermentoring and networking programs for SSCDS graduate students.
• Attend graduate recruiting fairswith SSCDS academic office staff and Grainger College of Engineering staff.
• Coordinate activities associatedwith SSCDS graduate student recruiting events such as meeting with visitingstudents, collaborating with school stakeholders to organize and deliverprogramming for recruits.

InformationManagement:

• Develop/compile/maintain statisticspertinent to the school's graduate programs.
• Curate, track, and communicatelanguage proficiency requirements for admitted and continuing students.

Support the school's Admissions process in conjunction withpeers:

• Coordinate and participate inactivities of application processing such as independently evaluatingtranscripts and standardized test scores which meet school requirements,managing the flow of application information.
• Maintain a familiarity with schooland university admissions policy requirements and procedures.
• Assume additional graduate programsduties as needed to further the mission of the school. May require workingevenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor'sdegree.
• At least two years of experience inproviding student academic support in a higher education setting.
• Experience working with studentsfrom a wide range of cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
• Experience working independently,and as part of a team, while meeting multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’sdegree in higher education or related field.
• Experience with event planning.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• -Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage a variety ofactivities under multiple deadlines.
• -Ability to communicate effectively and respond appropriately to customerneeds.
• -Ability to use technical tools to communicate with students and manage a largevolume of student records.
• -Ability to work nonstandard hours when necessary for school events (eveningsand weekends).

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $57,000.00- $59,000.00. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy .This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
