HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The ideal candidate for this position will complete all duties of a full-service professional academic advisor and will be tasked with performing advanced-level academic advisement functions such as facilitating academic program development, advising, interpretation, and implementation of university policies and procedures. The Academic Advisor Ill will provide administrative support to department undergraduate directors regarding course substitutions, petitions, and permissions. They will also support undergraduate directors with advisement-related events and advisement data needs from Navigate. Academic Advisor Ill will be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Banner, and have experience with programs similar to Argos, Degree Works, Navigate, etc.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Academic Advisor III are the following:

  • Evaluates and maintains student records for degree requirements.
  • Monitors student registration, academic performance, and progress.
  • Communicate with students about course scheduling, requirements, and resources.
  • Tracks retention, progression, and graduation of students.
  • Provides administrative support for course substitutions, petitions, and permissions.
  • Processes registration permissions in Banner.
  • Supports advisement events and data needs.
  • Mentors and trains staff; coordinates advisement training and special programs.
  • Serves as a lead worker for specified programs.
  • Coordinates regular advisement training, development, and planning meetings and activities for
    designated programs.
  • Mentors Academic Advisor I and IIs; trains and supervises staff and/or student assistants.
  • Coordinates special programs or functions such as dual degree, BIS, petitions, appeals, grade
    appeals, etc.
  • Other duties assigned.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and either 1) 6 months experience as “Academic Advisor II” at GSU (University Advisement Center or other GSU advising department) or 2) five years of related experience or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Requirements:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with student information systems and data analysis tools (e.g., Banner, Navigate, Reporting Systems).
