Responsibilities

  • Provides academic advising during the day and limited evening in individual consultations, group events or presentations, and tabling, for current and aspiring Cyber Security Engineering students on major/minor choice and curriculum.
  • Plans and implements academic success, orientation, and student engagement programs to promote retention and student success.
  • Develops workshops focused on academic planning, orientation, and student success.
  • Coordinates complex activities to support student academic planning and confidentiality.
  • Provides accurate interpretation of university and departmental policies to students, families, and faculty; assists with graduation audits and degree completion discussions.
  • Maintains accurate student records in PatriotConnect and reviews transcripts using Banner INB.
  • Coordinates departmental events, orientation activities, and special projects; participates in professional development.

About the Position: The Academic Advisor provides comprehensive academic advising andstudent support for undergraduate, graduate, and prospectivestudents in the Department of Cyber Security Engineering. Theadvisor helps students interpret and apply university anddepartmental policies, develop academic plans, monitor progresstoward degree completion, and connect with campus resources thatsupport academic and professional success. The position alsodevelops and delivers programs that promote student engagement,retention, and timely graduation. The Academic Advisor serves as a trusted resource and partner inhelping students achieve their academic, personal, and professionalgoals.

Student Interaction
  • Provides academic advising during the day and limited eveningin individual consultations, group events or presentations, andtabling, for current and aspiring Cyber Security Engineeringstudents on such topics as major or minor choice, curriculumselection, study skills, scholarship and club opportunities, andother academic-related areas;
  • Plans and implements academic success, orientation, and studentengagement programs that promote retention and studentsuccess;
  • Develops workshops and programs focused on academic planning,orientation, and student success;
  • Develops, disseminates and maintains resources to assiststudents with academic planning and development ofacademic/career/professional knowledge and skills;
  • Coordinates complex activities to support student academicplanning;
  • Understands and implements proper use of rules and proceduresconcerning confidentiality;
  • Provides accurate interpretation of university and departmentalpolicies and procedures to students, families, and faculty;and
  • Assists with graduation audits, communicates degreedeficiencies to students, and discusses options for degreecompletion.
Database Management
  • Maintains accurate and timely student records in PatriotConnect, including advising notes, tags, email communications, andappointment availability;
  • Utilizes Patriot Connect database to create and/or participatein campaigns for targeted outreach to select students;
  • Utilizes Banner INB student information system to reviewstudent transcripts, records, course registration history, andprocessing course overrides; and
  • Manages program-specific inboxes, listservs, and learningmanagement system organizations.
Special Events and Projects
  • Coordinates departmental events, orientation activities, andspecial projects as assigned;
  • Actively participates in professional development experienceswhen available to stay current with best practices and enhanceeffectiveness in the role; and
  • Executes special projects and duties assigned to support thedepartment.
Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to organize workshops, events, orsmall-scale programs while balancing multiple administrative tasksindependently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in related field;
  • Generally, 1+ years of direct experience in higher education,specifically within academic advising, student affairs, registrarservices, or admissions;
  • Experience managing a large caseload of students or clients ina fast-paced, detail-oriented environment;
  • Experience developing administrative workflows to improvestudent support services;
  • Knowledge and technical proficiency utilizing higher educationplatforms such as student information systems (SIS)/student recorddatabases (e.g., Banner) and CRMs; and
  • Ability to manage a large, diverse caseload of studentsindependently and collaboratively in a fast paced, detail-orientedenvironment.
