Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) seeks an ACE Academic Advisor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. You will guide a cohort of students from matriculation to degree completion, aligning advising with retention goals and career development initiatives.

The role collaborates with faculty and program staff, supporting ACE recruitment and student success, with a salary range of roughly $61k–$70k and a funded-term through June 30, 2029.

Qualifications

• Master's degree (or substitute with 2 years of relevant experience).
• At least four years of full-time academic advising experience.
• Transfer student guidance is a plus.
• Understanding of educational needs for diverse urban students.
• Ability to maintain accurate and detailed student records.
• Knowledge of equitable and inclusive advisement practices.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Access, Excel) and willingness to learn new systems.
• Strong organization, collaboration, communication and facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

The ASAP|ACE academic advisor is a member of an integrated team providing individual academic, career, and related support to an assigned group of program students, utilizing a variety of modalities, as they progress towards their associate degree. Reporting to the ASAP|ACE Associate Director, the senior academic advisor is responsible to carry out advisement services to their cohort of students in accordance with program policy, with the goal of retaining the maximum number of students each semester and graduating a minimum of 50% of each student cohort. The ACE academic advisor will collaborate with other program staff, as well as faculty to provide coordinated services and support student success. The academic advisor assists with all program initiatives, including special events and recruitment, if necessary.

GENERAL DUTIES

• Deliver comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion, according to the campus program advisement rubric;
• Utilize campus degree maps to create semester-by-semester academic plans for freshman, continuing, and/or transfer students as appropriate;
• Consistently review student progress and provide timely interventions to keep students on track toward a degree;
• Enter/document/track all student contact in ASAP program and/or college student database, recommend referral and services as appropriate;
• Run student contact queries/reports consistently to determine outreach and follow-up needed to meet students with the frequency and modality required by the program;
• Conduct workshops and group advisement on topics of relevance and interest;
• Collaborate with other offices to align advising practices with campus-wide retention and engagement strategies;
• Coordinate with John Jay College faculty members and academic departments to support students in navigating major requirements, course selection, and academic policies;
• Integrate career advising into advising sessions, helping students connect academic goals with career pathways and experiential learning opportunities;
• Collaborate with the Career Learning Lab to connect students with internships, job opportunities and career readiness workshops;
• Participate in ACE team meetings, contributing to a collaborative and data-informed advising culture;
• Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new students, including orientation sessions and transition support for incoming transfer students;
• Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

A master's degree in an appropriate discipline (preferably in Psychology, Counseling, Educational Administration, Educational Psychology, and/or Social Work) may be substituted for 2 years' experience. At least four years of full-time academic advising experience. The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience working to provide guidance, support, and services to students, transfer students a plus;
• Strong understanding of the educational needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds;
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and detailed student records;
• Demonstrated skill in understanding and respecting cultural differences;
• Demonstrated knowledge of equitable and inclusive advisement practices to support students;
• Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Access and Excel); and aptitude to learn new systems as needed;
• Strong organization, collaboration, communication, and facilitation skills

Pay Range:

Annual Salary $61,831-$70,000

This position is funded until June 30, 2029.
