Job summary

Fairfield County is seeking an experienced Airport Operations Manager to oversee facilities, schedules, and safety compliance. This role coordinates staff, reviews contracts, and acts as a county official for vendor oversight at the airport.

You will work with consultants on capital plans for runways and facilities, assist in budget preparation, and monitor grants and financial operations. A Bachelor's in Aeronautics or related field and 8 years of aviation experience are required.

Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Interprets and recommends appropriate action in the enforcements of federal, state and County rules and regulations governing general aviation airports.
  • Monitors and reviews the work of contract personnel or county staff performing construction, repairs, and maintenance of buildings, grounds, runways, taxiways, ramps, and equipment at airport facilities, including sewer, water systems, and electrical systems within the airfield or terminal area.
  • Meets with prospective lessees to determine facility needs and appropriate space allocations.
  • Negotiates contractual agreements for concessions, industries and maintenance at County airports; works with and attempts to gain voluntary compliance when contractors or lessees are not following the terms of their agreements.
  • Acts as County Official for oversight of vendors and lessees doing business at or for the airport. Coordinates all grants and financial operations of the facility on behalf of the County and works in concert with the County financial department as appropriate.
  • Supervises and directs assigned staff.
  • Reviews contract compliance and takes corrective actions when contract personnel or lessees are not following terms and conditions of their agreements.
  • Makes regular inspections of facilities that include but not limited to grounds and equipment for safety, proper maintenance, needed repairs, and improvements.
  • Works with consultants to prepare short (capital improvement plans) and long-range plans (airport layout plan/master plan) for improvements, maintenance and repair of airport facilities.
  • Assists in the preparations of the airport budget by determining personnel, maintenance, equipment, materials and supply needs.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics, Business Administration or related discipline.

Eight (8) years of aviation operations or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
