Hornblower’s Seaward Services, Inc. seeks an experienced Able-Bodied Seaman to join the deck crew for the new Crew Transfer Vessels servicing wind turbines off the East Coast, with operations around Martha’s Vineyard and Norfolk VA.

You will assist with transfers, mooring, ship maintenance, engine rounds, and navigation, while prioritizing safety and adhering to USCG rules and company policies. Trips offshore range 12–24 hours.

  • USCG MMC with Able-Bodied Seaman Limited endorsement or higher.
  • STCW 95 with endorsements II/4, IV/2, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3, VI/4, VI/5, VI/6.

Seaward Services, Inc. seeks an experienced Able-Bodied Seaman to serve on the deck crew for our new Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV), which will service wind turbines off the East coast. Your primary area of operation will be the waters in and around Martha’s Vineyard or Norfolk VA, where you will transport crew, equipment, and cargo to turbines throughout the wind farm. Under the direction of the Captain and Deck Officer, you will assist with a variety of tasks, including transfer of personnel to turbines, mooring operations, ship’s maintenance, engine rounds, and aiding in navigation of the vessel. Dynamic and variable operating environments will require an experienced and focused Able Seaman who will demonstrate sound judgement and exercise caution during all ship evolutions. As a member of the deck department, you will prioritize safety above all else and help establish a working environment that reflects this value. Additionally, your commitment to good seamanship, attentiveness, and eagerness to learn will contribute to a productive, safe, and cooperative workplace for all crew. As a deck crew member, you will strive to act in a manner onboard that reflects company values and codes of conduct.

Trips offshore will range in duration from 12-24 hours.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Handle mooring lines during docking or undocking of the vessel
  • Assist with filling potable water, bunkering, discharging black/grey water and connect / disconnect shore power as directed
  • Perform operational duties as instructed by the Captain or Deck Officer
  • Conduct at sea personnel transfer and cargo operations in all weather conditions
  • Perform lookout duties while underway in accordance with Rule 5 of COLGREGs
  • Assist in all alongside and underway cargo evolutions
  • Perform cleaning and custodial tasks of the vessels and property, including maintenance tasks as
  • Conduct basic engineering repairs and rounds as directed.
  • Seek the highest levels of quality and professionalism.
  • Assist with training of new crew as directed.
  • Assist the Master in ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Assist the Master in maintaining vessel integrity to support safety and a consistent state of operational readiness
  • Monitor passenger & crewmember safety issues on the boat.
  • Ensure that safety equipment is utilized, and appropriate guidelines are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials
  • Participate in meetings, training, drills, and safety audits as required by USCG & company policy
  • Develop understanding of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e., fire extinguishers, fire stations, life preservers, work vest, and life floats)
  • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Handle and dispose of all chemicals and other types of hazardous or caustic materials in compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) (as required).
  • Report safety, operational, and environmental issues to your direct supervisor immediately.

Requirements & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC) with an Able-Bodied Seaman Limited (or higher) endorsement
  • STCW 95 and the following STCW endorsements: II/4, IV/2, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3, VI/4, VI/5, and VI/6
  • RFPNW
  • VPDSD
  • Post hire - Be ability to obtain and maintain GWO Sea Survival and GWO Lift (Crane) Certifications
  • Valid United States Passport
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Copy of DD Form 214, if Veteran Status
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a seagoing mariner, demonstrating the ability to handle increasing levels of responsibility
