Job Description for Peer Mentor at Asian American Recovery Services (AARS)

HealthRIGHT 360 provides hope, builds health, and changes lives by offering comprehensive, integrated, compassionate care, including primary medical care, mental health services, and substance use disorder treatment. Our Outpatient services focus on mental health and substance use disorders, providing treatment and skills groups alongside community resources.

Outpatient programs deliver trauma-informed care aimed at reducing the impacts of substance use. Participants collaborate with counselors to develop personalized, strengths-based treatment plans tailored to individual needs and goals. Services include individual and group therapy, case management, treatment planning, counseling, crisis intervention, and social support connections.

Asian American Recovery Services (AARS) offers individualized support sessions targeting substance abuse and anger management/conflict resolution, utilizing cognitive-behavioral approaches and the Seven Challenges treatment model for youth in Juvenile Hall requiring ongoing substance abuse treatment.

The Peer Mentor, employed by AARS, a program of HealthRIGHT 360, delivers and coordinates services for youth referred by the Santa Clara County Department of Behavioral Health Services. We seek dedicated, client-centered, full-time Peer Mentors passionate about serving clients in outpatient substance use disorder treatment. Hours are Monday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The Peer Mentor should have lived experience similar to the target population, such as being an ex-offender or having a substance use history. Responsibilities include acting as a liaison to clients, assisting in resource connection, organizing recreational activities and family nights, supporting clients throughout their treatment, and linking clients to peer support and community resources to foster recovery and responsible friendships.

Education and Skills:

  • High school diploma and GED
  • Lived experience comparable to the target population

Required Skills:

  • Ability to engage and motivate populations involved with the criminal justice system
  • Proficiency in data entry and maintaining data integrity
  • Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and reliability
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
